slim lead throughout the final for his first AMA
outdoor win of the season.
"I just knew I was going to walk away with
this one," said Moore. "Sometimes you just get a
feeling that a great ride is in the works - and it
happened!"
Despite pressure from AMA Pro Bob Moran,
who topped the 30+ heat race, McBride was able
to grab the lead in the A main ahead of Moran,
Dan Kimbel, Moore and Don Montgomery.
Up front Moran pushed McBride hard while
Moore relegated Kimbel to fourth. Moore's
charge brought the Tigard, Oregon, resident
within striking distance of both leader McBride
and second-place Moran. but the three ultimately finished it that order.
National number 78 Don Wilson jumped out
in front of the combined Expert/Pro-Am final
ahead of J.P. Simonsen, Chris Fitzhugh and Jeff
Annen. Simonsen hounded. Wilson for three
laps, then made his move in a daring outside
pass for the lead - and ultimately the win - with
Annen also dumping Wilson back a not.ch.
Fitzhugh finished fourth ahead of top Pro-Am
rider Randy Patterson.

Nick McBride continued to maintain his stranglehold of the 30+ and Open A class points lead
by winning the 30+ A main and taking second
place to Gary Moore in the Open A main at the
Tacoma Motorcycle Club's AMA District 27
Short Track at the Thurston County ORV park.
In the Open A main, former Pro motocrosser
Don Knoblauch, who earlier won the Open B
main, led the opening lap, but Honda-mounted
Moore and Yamaha-mounted McBride both
swallowed Knoblauch'. lead to take over the
first and secondJ>OSitions. Moore maintained a

Hutson nearly takes two at
Trailblazers Cross Country
By DwryI Smllh
SAINT jO, TX. JUNE 30
Todd Hutson was unaffected by the hot summer
conditions and rode to two podium finishes, finishing first in the 12Sec Intermediate race and
taking the third-place spot in the 250cc intermediate race at the ninth round of the Trailblazers'
1996 Texas Cross Series.
Hutson was the definitive Ironman on the
day, racing to third in the morning 250cc, then
sitting around for four hours in the l()()-degree
heat befo"" lining up for the afternoon's 12Scc
Intermediate race. After a midpack start, Hutson
pulled up on O1ris Dejarneatt's rear wheel and
followed Dejameatt's dust for two laps before
taking the lead and holding on for a close win.
Scott Foster tried to wipe out the 250cc AA
start for the third week in row. A wide-open
fifth gear start into a left-hand sweeper was a
big change compared to the number of secondgear starts Foster has made throughout the sea-

BERTHOUD, CO,jUtY14
Chad Zulian battled a field of highly competitive riders to grab the overall 125cc Amateur
win at the Sport ~iders Association of Colorado' 5 15th race.
The first lap of mota one of the 125cc Amateur class saw Scott Burris in first position, Mike
Royer in second, Mike Maddock third, Shane
Tempkins forth and Billy Dotson in fifth. Maddock moved past Royer on the second lap and
Dotson flew by Tempkins. Jeremy Miller moved
from seventh to fifth and Tempkins slid back to
eighth.
The track took its toll on Royer during lap
three as he went down on the main straightaway
in front of the starling gate while pressing hard
on Maddock's back door. With Royer out for the
rest of the mota, Keith ZuHan slid into fifth position. Slight changes took place during the final
four laps with O1ad Zulian moving from. 12th
position on the first lap to third place by the
completion of the race.
Maddock chased Burris for seven laps without being able to pass, but got the fust-place
position due to a starting in&action on Burris'
part that resulted in a one-lap penalty. The first
mota's top five places went to Maddock, Dotson, Chad Zulian. Keith Zulian and Ryan Cook,
respectively.
Burris was slow to get off the line at the
start of the second mota, and was in the 23rd
spot throughout the first lap. Dotson took the
lead with Nick Medcalf, Ryan Cook, Nick Ralston and Erik Janssen close at hand. Chad
Zulian was in sixth and looking for places to
advance on every piece of the track. Cook
dropped to fifth on the second lap, and eventually pulled off the track and out of the race.
Meanwhile, Zulian moved into fourth positon, then grabbbed third on the final lap when
Dotson pulled off the track. Nick Ralston took
the second-moto win, followed by Metcalf,
Zulian, Lee Kunselman and James Volmer.
With a fantastic ride, Buiiis charged past rider
after rider to place sixth. Overalls went to Chad
Zulian, Nick Ralston, Nick Metcalf, Mike
Madock and Lee Kunselman, respectively.

son. Foster's erratic style had him tangled with
Tracy Anders even before the first turn. The two
locked up at speed and went about 30 yards tangled together before hitting the ground and
pushing several other riders off the track. Foster
was unhurt, but Anders suffered a broken arm
in the accident.
Eric Hess grabbed the holeshot, avoiding the
first-turn mess on the inside.
David Cu.lpepper and Tom Robinson quickly
moved past Hess on lap one. Culpepper held off
Robinson midway into lap two, and the two riders finished in that order. Foster was on the
charge and had moved by Hess into third place
by lap four. Foster held onto third for the final
lap while Bobby Southard nailed Hess on the
white-flag lap to steal fourth.
Glen Boyett was the only AA 12Scc rider to
get all his laps in. Boyett topped Joey Houghton
and Tad Myers, but his win was a costly one as
he severely bent both his rims during the race,
as did many other riders.
The SOcc class on Saturday evening was full
of non-stop action. The sandy terrain was a new
challenge for some and caused a few crashes,
changing the leaderboard often. The Allaway
brothers were entertaining with their flat-track
style through the grass and their visorless helmets. Darren Attaway was the runner-up. while
David Attaway was fourth.
D.J. McMillon took the top pot on his KTM,
and Colton Wright stepped in third. Jennifer
Flowers finished fifth after running near the
front early in the race.
