Of the one million vehicles to come off the Marysville assembly line, 315,000 of them have been Gold Wings, 490,000 have been ATVs and 195,000 have been other models of Honda motorcycles. According to a release from Honda, it currentJy takes 8.6 hours to build a Gold Wing. Donner Ski Ranch in Norden, California, will host rounds six and seven of the AMA/NATC National Championship Observed Trials Series on August 10-11. According to AHRMA, Progressive Suspension will sponsor the vintage motocross and road race during Steamboat Motorcycle Week in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, on September 11-15. Australian Super Touring driver Charlie O'Brien has claimed that a concrete barrier probably would have prevented the tragic death of former Grand Prix road racer Gregg Hansford at Phillip Island on March 5, 1995, while the Australian was competing in a Super Touring car race. Hansford, 42, was competing in his first 2.0 liter race when he lost control of the car, which slammed into a tire wall and into the path of an oncoming car. O'Brien made his claims in Melbourne (Austr.alia) Coroner's Court, where Coroner Graeme Johnstone is conducting an inquest into the death of Hansford, who wOn four 250cc GPs and six . 350cc GPs in his two-wheele9- career, reports Cycle News correspondent Darryl Flack. O'Neal USA is currently accepting race resumes for fhe 1997 racing season. There are several levels of support available, including an entry-level program. According to a press release from Mark Miller Racing, Miller and Lockhart Phillips USA have mutually agreed to terminate their current working relationship. Miller was hired in November of 1995 to coordinate the Team Privateer Program, a sponsorship program supporting hundreds of road racers. "lockhart really needs someone who can be there most of the time," Miller said. "It got to the point where I was gone racing more than I was in the office." The eighth round of the AHRMA Western Regional Dirt Track Series, scheduled for August 18 in Hollister Hills, California, will feature A Tribute to Joe Leonard. The three-time AMA Grand National Champion will be on hand for the event. Harley-Davidson Motor Company has signed an agreement for the purchase of Briggs & Stratton's 400,000 square-foot Vanguard facility located in Menomenee Falls, Wisconsin, to expand the production of Harley-Davidson engines and transmissions. "This is a giant step toward growing capacity to meet the future demand being set by our current and future customers, H-D President and Chief Operating Officer Jefferey L. Bleustein said. "Some of our current operations at the Capitol Drive facility will be moved to Menomenee Falls, allowing for future expansion of our powertrain operations at both locations." When combined with the company's new Kansas City manufacturing plant for Sportsers, the new facility should help Harley-Davidson reach its goal of being able to produce 200,00'0 motorcycles by the year 2003. Kevin Bricker Promotions, in conjunction with Don Miller Jr., of B&W Distributing, has organized the Red Dog Shoot-out Professional Dirt Track Race to benefit the ROCK Reach for the Stars Program. The event, which boasts a $2500 Pro purse, is scheduled for Hills Ferry Speedway in Newman, California, on August 17. Gates open at 5 p.m. with the first race starting at 7:30 p.m. Adult admission is $6 with kids (6-12) $3. Bricker's goal is 'to raise $9000 for this year's event. According to a press release from WERA, the following companies have agreed to move their contingency payouts from the National Challenge Sprint Series races orginally scheduled for May 26 at Summit Point Raceway to round eight of the series to be held at Memphis Motorsports Park on Septem-' ber 8: Bridgestone, Dunlop, Metze.ler, Michelin, Pirelli, EBC, Ferodo, SBS Brakes, Graves Motorsports and ProTek Sprockets have all agreed to double the contingency payout at this event. Suzuki has moved its contingency money to the August 31-September 1 race at Nelson Ledges; 0&0 Exhaust has moved its to round nine at Texas World Speedway on September 22,.and will pay double contingency. The following companies have declined to move their contingency funds, according to WERA: Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Vance & Hines. According to the FIM, a contract has been signed between the FIM and Editioins Lariviere SA, a Paris, Francebased company, regarding the Supercross World Championship. Through this contract, the FIM is handing over the management and TV marketing rights of the Supercross World Championship to Editions Lariviere. The most vital points of the contract are the fol.lowing: The Supercross World Championship will consist of at least six events, each behing held independently on one day; the sporting and technical rules are the responsibility of the FIM and the FIM licenses for the Motocross World Championship will be valid for the supercross series; the contract is vahd until December 31, 1999 and Editions Lariviere wili pay the FIM a total of $366,00 over this period. Road Atlanta will begin running motocross races again on August 24 with the AMA Trans-MX Series promoted by SportStar Inc. The track has been on a Summer Olympics hiatus and the track has been widened and a new spectator area has been created during the down time.
