Buell Ughtning Series Round 3: Road America ELKHART LAKE, WI, AUG 4 ....~a avid Estok continued his sweep of the Buell Lightning Series with a third win in as many races. Tripp Nobles had been a factor early in the race but a loose exhaust gradually caused his machine to lose power and he could do nothing to keep Estok in sight. Fortunately, Nobles and Estok had pulled enough of a gap on the ba ttle for third between David McGrath and David Leslie that his runner-up finish would not be threatened. Estok has a commanding lead in the five-round series with a full 26-point lead over Nobles, 105-79. McGrath led the field off the line but was immediately overwhelmed by Tripp Nobles and Estok, who had qualified within 0.5 second of each other and a full two seconds faster than he had. Estok pulled away from Nobles gradually at first and then faster in the final laps. The gap was 0.8 second after two laps, three seconds after four, and six seconds at the end. The reason was that Nobles' motor broke 'an exhaust flange on the rear cylinder and was both losing power and sounding sour. "I thought Nobles would give me a little more competition," Estok said. "I slowed down the last two laps when 1 saw the size of the lead 1 had. 1 love this track; it's real smooth with lots of fast comers. It wasn't easy. You have to ride these bikes hard and it's a lot of work." Fortunately for Nobles, he was a full four seconds ahead of a struggle for third between McGrath and David Leslie. Leslie finally got by on lap four and started closing in on Nobles, but it was too late. Post-race dyno testing revealed that Leslie's motor was producing 92 horsepower, above the class limit of 90. He was fined $750 and received no points for this race. He was allowed to keep his third-place finish, so that McGrath did not receive third-place points.
