Melissa Cady KELLOGG, MN, jUl.Y7 Bobby Widman was the winner of the day in the Mini (7-11) cJass with 3-1 moto finishes, ed.ging out Josh Carlson's 2-2 scores to take the win at Kellogg, Minnesota's Midway Motocross. Nathan Kimball grabbed the holeshot at the start of the first Mini (7-11) moto, followed. into the first turn by Joe Ettesvold. Ettesvold quickly replaced Kimball as the moto leader, and Carlson managed to get around Kimball to take second. By the midway point of the race Carlson caught up to Ettesvold's rear tire and began to push him hard, with Chris Riesenberg in third and Widman behind in fourth. On the third lap Carlson passed Ettesvold, but Ettesvold regained. his lead a short time later and the two raced side by side, but by the end of the third lap Widman had moved to third to make the last lap a three-way battle to the checkers. When the checkered. flag finally flew it was Ettesvold with the win, followed by Carlson in second and Widman in third. Riesenberg and Scott Ehlenfeldt finished. fourth and fifth, respectively. The start of moto two saw the top two finishers start right where they left off, with Ettesvold leading and Carlson in second.. By the end of lap one, however, Carlson had pushed. into the lead, taking Widman with him, and it was Widman who sewed. up the race on the second lap after he got around Carlson and held on to the lead until the end of the moto. Carlson finished. in second and Ettesvold claimed. third, Widman's combined. finishes good enough to earn him the overall win. Results (Yam). 650 NOV: 1. Stephen Bowline (Hon); 2. Vet Kevin Foley won his elass as the first-<>ver Top of the Nation Masters of Motocross roosted. through the soft, loamy soil of the San Luis Valley Vickery Yamaha-sponsored Dwight Catalano grabbed the first holeshot to take the lead but soon lost it to Vickery Yamaha-sponsored Shawn Smith. Colorado's top Vet rider Smith made a strong attempt to keep Foley, from passing. Kevin attacked aggressively, which surprised everyone, because Foley, sponsored by Yamaha Motor Corporation, got hung up in the first turn after Kawasaki rider Bryan Curtis went down. Curtis is recovering from a broken leg and Foley refused to run over him. After the first turn fall, Foley kept his throttle pinned., using his sand skills to pass everyone but Smith. Smith had already been victorious over Cata1ano in the Senior Pro elass earlier in the day and was trying to maintain the pace of the Pro Veterans. Smith started. tensing up on the back section and Foley started. pressuring. '"Once I could see Shawn ahead of me I knew I was still in 11.'" Foley finally charged. to the front to the cheers of a large spectator crowd gathered on this sunny Southern Colorado afternoon. The second moto was much easier for Foley, with Curtis second and Smith third, followed. bv Cata1ano and Yamaha-mounted. Larry Morton. Winners in the Senior and Veteran classes were treated to large silver vases, champagne and cash. Results 50: I. Ikejost; 2. MikeQuintuw. 60 BEG: 1. Ike Jost. 80 BEG: 1. DanicI Mut:i.nez.; 2.
