to John in turn six. 1 think he missed a
gear coming out of turn five. We went
into turn six together and slowed each
other up a bit. Afte~ that 1knew 1 wasn't
going to get away from him so 1 was
better off not doing anything silly and
landing in the dirt, which I've done too
many times since I've been here this
weekend. I just didn't want to crash
because the points are more important
and we'll go for the second race."
Naturally, Kocinski was pleased with
his ~ffort. "I didn't get the start that 1
wanted to get but 1 guess it was okay,"
Kocinski said. "It was better than the
last few. I was able to get by Troy early
on and just ride as hard and consistent
as 1 could. 1 wasn't sure if he was going
to try and come up the inside or not, so I
just rode as hard as I c.ould. If he would
have come by, 1 was giving it everything
1 had so there wasn't anything I could
do anyway. 1 just basically tried to
worry about what I was doing and finish."
Edwards ended up fourth with Slight
fifth, Hale sixth and Crafar getting the
better of Fogarty and Yoshikawa for
seventh: Suzuki's Kirk McCarthy filled
the top 10 with Fast By Ferracd's Larry
Pegram the best of the locals in 12th
place.
"A bad first corner," Pegram
explained. "I ran into the back of Mike
Smith and then I lost the front in two. I
had to come to a complete stop, put it in
first gear and then take back off. I was
