Speaking of the Six Days, according to
Dave Bertram, who is also the team
manager of the U.S. Trophy Team, the
trail mileage for the Finnish Six Days
will be much longer than what was first
announced. The average daily mileage
the 400-plus competitors will have to
ride will be at least 200 miles, the
longest being Day Three. That day will
see the start time moved up one hour to
give the riders extra time to cover the
248 miles that is currently scheduled.
"Since the average rainfall in Finland is
approximately 15 inches of rain a
month, rain is going to be a big concern," said Bertram. "If it rains, there's
going to be a lot of deep ruts, sandy,
soft soil, so it (the trails) could be bad."
In order to prepare for the event, U.s.
World Trophy rider Scott Summers has
laid out a 7-mile loop near his house
and has been riding over 170 miles a
day on it. "This year's Six Days could'
be one of the toughest yet," said
Bertram.
