Everts was out at the first tum of the second moto. "My bike was misfiring before the start and we changed ,the plug at the line, but it cut out at the turn," he said. "There must be an ignition problem." - Again Matlin had the holeshot, and Tortell was not in the first 10 this time. By the end of the lap he was sixth, and after 15 minutes be had broken the temporarily stem resistance of Vialle for second. The deficit to the leader·was seven seconds, and this was gradually reduced until, with 10 minutes to go, Tortelli moved ahead on a downhill section for his second win of the day. . With three laps to go Malin gave it his all·and got back onto the Kawasaki's rear wheel. Again Malin outdistanced everyone else by 40 seconds, but again he was second to the outstanding rider in European MX. Vialle, who had slumped to 14th with arm-pump in the opener, held on for third this time, while Seguy and Roncada shared fourth and fifth, respectively, in both motos on a track which favored the brave. Camerlengo deserves a special mention for his second-moto eighth with a broken ring finger on his left hand. Bob Moore had a frustrating return to GP action. He held sixth early on in race one: "I slipped out on some rocks after 10 minutes and broke off the front brake· lever. 1 carried on until 1 slipped . out of the points, but it was just too dangerous on the long downhills. I'm still hurting, anyway." The lone American lasted little longer than Everts in race two: "The motor was starting to seize already on the first lap. It was getting slower and slower and 1 pulled out before it cut out on me on one of those big jumps." Those jumps had claimed not only Camerlengo, but also Maschio with a brokert foot on Saturday, and Dugmore cut open his right forearm on the big table top in race one. Brian Jorgensen nearly joined them: "My clutch went in midrace. You had to brake before the tabletop because the face was so steep and 1 nose-dived three times there. That was enough for me." The Dane had no luck in race two, either. After a top-six start, the engine lost coolant and eventually seized solid after he had lost places with the inevitable power loss.
