would stay close until the fifth lap, but
he would gradually lose time to the lead
duo after that until he eventually
dropped to some e;ght seconds behIDd
at the finish.
"I just wanted to hang in there in the
beginIting," Barnes said. "That's the key
to these Supersport races. There was at
least 5 mph dHference when I wasn't
with them. It was like I hH a wall. Hopefully, I can get up to trurd in the points
by the end of the year.".
Yates led across the stripe for the first
hme at the end of lap seven, and he
would hold that spot until lap 11 when
P;cotte sneaked by in turn two. From
there the French Canaman was able to
thwart the ~st efforts of his teammate to
take the win by a scant 0.147 of a second.
"I was riffing really hard, as hard as I
could," Yates said. "I was having a
problem drafting up on him. I don't
know if it's' our size difference, or
what."
Beh;nd a lonely Barnes came
McDaruel, who was also alone. Ditto for
Miller, Leslie, Black and Alexander.
Behind them Snow led a five-way battle
for ninth in what was otherwise a rather
uneventful r<~ce.
"I think I was a little qillcker in one
and two and I think that's where I could
get him (Yates)," Pkotte sa;d. "He was
faster in the infield and he rode a,good
race. But unfortunately I won. I
stretched my. points lead and that's
good."
