Out in front, Norton was still in the
lead, but Mclevy was right behind. As
Norton would stop at the bottom of hill
waiting for riders to clear, Mclevy
would catch up. The two continued to
play cat and mouse throughout the first
half of the lap. With both riders trying to
move out in front only to get stuck in a
rut or fall over on a hill. Norton was
able to finally pull away, when Mclevy
took a bad line coming to a dead stop in
a rut. It was time for Norton to put the
hammer down.
After almost three hours of racing,
Norton came around to take the checkered flag with a two-minu te lead over
runner-up, Mclevy. Levesque was back
only another two minutes when he ran
out of gas just 200 yards from the pit.
His pit crew was able to get him going
again before Clarke came around giving
him third overall; Clarke finished
fourth. Roundlng out the top five was
Gunn on his Manchester's KTM.
Taking the Expert-class overall was
Factory Connection's Rick Claxton.
Claxton and Ken Valentine traded
places throughout the first three laps
with Claxton finally pulling away on the
fourth lap taking the class overall by a
comfortable margin.
Earlier in the day, the Junior event
ran three laps of a shortened course.
Leading the evenf from the beginning
was Eric Rougeau on his Yamaha. But
he was getting a lot of pressure from
Brian Lawson. Lawson was back only
four seconds but had a slight mishap on
the final lap going off one of the bridge
crossings. He ended up finishing in second place. An impressive finish considering he required several stitches to his
knee due to the incident. In the Mini
class, it was Nathan Kanney edging out
series leader Mike Peristere by 50 sec,
onds to take the win.
