like day and night once I got rid of
them," Plessinger said. "I could see so
much better, so I just picked up the pace
and left those guys behind." The
KTM/MSR/ Arai/Tsubaki/Trelleborg/Smith-backed Plessinger ended up
one minute and three seconds ahead of
Smith. As for Smith, "Once I got into
second on the last lap, I just settled in
there. I knew that Plessinger has no
chance of winning this series, so 1decided to settle for second. 1 had nothing to
lose by coming in se.cond, as I have
quite a points lead in this series."
Less than a minute behind Smith,
Hawkins trailed in for third; Conner
came in four minutes back of Hawkins,
and Dahners another four minutes back
of Conner. Dahners almost lost his fifth
place to Fred Hoess, who was competing in the 250cc A division.
About half of the Novices and Amateurs (who were flagged in an hour
before the experts finished) actually finished the race after the experts. Track
conditions were sO horrendous that they
simply took a lengthy rest out on the
. course to let the serious-minded contestants battle it out. Hence, the final
results show just one lap completed out
of what started out to be a four-lap race
for them.
