ROAD RACE World Championship Superbike Road Race Series Round 5: Brno, Czech Republic about the first time in my life that I actually noticed that you use your feet while racing a bike. By putting some more weight on the footpegs in the comers, I was able to go a bit quicker. Apparently, I still have to adapt my style accordingly. One of the mechanics came to see me after the race and told me: 'In the left comers you look like Simon Crafar, in the right comers you look like a Belgian policeman.' " Phillis took another point, repeating his performance of the first heat: "I sort of had a lonely ride in the second race. It was only until the end that Bontempi caught up with me. I had a tougher shot in my hand before the start of the second heat, so that was a lot better. Funnily enough, Piergiorgio has a similar injury than mine, so nobody could use this excuse for losing out. Anyway, I feel a lot better now, as I went straight to the clinic after the race to have a cast put on my broken hand." McCarthy r",tired and Giles was a non-starter. "When I almost lost the rear end on the back straight, I knew that Troy was in trouble. I thought for sure that he was going to stop, but he just kept on gOing." Fogarty finished third after an equally lonesome race, even though Hodgson was never far away. "I got too cautious when I saw the smoke coming out of Troy's bike," the Honda rider said. "Aaron got away a bit, and I wasn't able to get back to him, as the bike wouldn't pull through the gears going uphill. But I'm now really getting to grips with the (Left) Nice do. Aaron Slight showed up with this halrcuit and then finished second and third in the two races. Honda; I've found a riding style that suits the bike better." Hale had his best result of the year with a fifth-place finish, after having escaped from the clutches of Kocinski in the final stages of the race. "We got the clutch fixed after the first race," Hale explained. "We did some fine-tuning on the front end, and that seemed to do the trick. The bike steers a lot better mid corner now, and I can honestly say that this is the first race this year that I've been able to put the bike where I want it in the comers." Edwards and Reynolds, once again, kept each other company, but this time it was the Yamaha rider who stayed in front. Edwards finished seventh, in front of Reynolds, Crafar and Chili. "Finally, we went back to the basic setup that we had while testing last week," the Texan said. "I went one second a lap quicker than in the first race. The bike was a lot better to ride. Unfortunately, the front tire was still a mess, so that didn't help me get a better result." Crafar was happy to be leaving Bmo with some points in his pocket. "We didn't change anything on the bike," the Muzzy Kawasaki rider said. "This was er superb start from 10th place on the grid and was running well in seventh place before he crashed. Although he tried to restart the bike, it had picked up too much gravel and he was forced to. retire. "It is frustrating to crash at any time but more so when you're going good. I had a good start again, but just wasn't able to make the most of it. {N Autornotodrom Smo Smo, Czech Republic Results: June 30,1996 (Round 5 of 12) QUALIFYING: 1.
