Ramsey grabbed the point on the start of moto one, only to yield to Walker in ti,e woods. Beginning on lap two, Walker nearly lost the race at the top of the stalrstep hill when his knobbies lost their grip and he found himsel f looking down at his rear wheel. "Kevin's really good at sllding around those IT comers in the Mini-Os," said a friend of Walker. That skiII served him well, and Walker recovered to .retain the lead, much to the chagrin of Ramsey and Neese, all of whom were in the same comer. Pressuring relentlessly, Ramsey was able to force hls way to the front with a lap and a half to go. Ramsey was further helped when Walker bobbled coming up the stairsteps and settled for a safe second place. Walker nailed the holeshot in the second moto and led for most of the race, though Ramsey was always there pecking over his shoulder. Late in the penultimate lap, Ramsey executed. a slick in-and-out move going through an up!tiII horseshoe, stinging Walker for the lead. For the last lap, Walker pulle.d out alI the stops to get back in front, and the two were side-by-side blasting up the stairsteps to the finlsh line. Ramsey won by a wheel, and Walker stopped immedlately after the flag, obviously hurting. "I twisted my knee on the last comer," Walker said. "When I put my foot down it felt like it was twlsted around backwards." Then, looking up at Ramsey, whose hand was on liis snoulder, Walker said, "Great race, man." Results 50 (4-6): 1.
