disp layed the form that won last year's ch a m pions hip . Dresser' s tim e w as a blistering 9.20. All eyes were on last -round winner Tom Reiser. Reiser had hoped to continue his winning ways but it would not be a g o o d day for the fo rm e r n ational cham pion. After a crash in New York destroyed his fuel p ump he had been fo rced to replace the item with a new model an d had adjustmen t problems all afternoon . This left him clearly off the pace. Gerencer was the o nly member of the H arl ey-David son Racing Pro Hillclimb Team to clear the top of the hill in ro und one and even he faced his share o f p roblems, n ea rl y flipp ing off t he third jum p . The SOOcc'Class w in is usua lly decided on the second ride and today's racing would follow that the me. Frazie r was the first to make a big jump, rid ing his Kawasaki wide op en over all the jumps for a 9.71. "I still had problems hooking up at the bottom, and J had to left of a fr ac tio n on t he th ir d ju m p w hen it w hee lied, " said sixth-placed Frazier. Stev e Dresser was hoping his solid firs t ride would stand. But as has been th e case at every event th is year, Lou Gerencer finds his tru e speed on his second ride. Gerence r held the gas on all the wa y up the to ug h hill, despite w heelies and almost going into the trees near the top . Gerencer's 8.89 would be th e da y' s best time. When asked if a cautiou s approach may ha ve been a better way to ge t as many ch a m pio nshi p points as possible, Gerencer explained: "Yo u can' t ride conservatively here. U you try you'll end up in the woods. You have to go hard to keep it stra ight." W ill ie Price fe ll on h is fi rs t r id e, tho ugh he looke d good u p u n til the crash. On his second ride Price na iled it. " It kicked me up in the air a little off the start and I got up off the seat an d held it on," Price sai d. H is effor ts yielded a third -place fin ish as he co ntin ues to improve. Harry Sch rei ber Jr. had a fan tastic start on his second ride, but he got in trouble at th e second jump 'and ba rely stayed on the hill, dropping him back in the overa ll standings. Dresse r took his shot at Gerencer near th e end of the day, but he couldn't get it d one. The Ind ianan crossed it up over the second jump, and by the time he had it straightened out it was too late. ~ Bushkill Valley Motorcycle Club Freemansburg, Pennsylvania Res ults: June 9,1996 (Round 3 of 10) 540: 1.
