"But I had many 55 because I was trying hard to clean them. I have short legs and for me it is often clean or crash." Former World Champion Tommi Ahvala came next, and his sixth-place showing was much more encouraging than his 14th-place finish in America. With a barely healed broken right hand, the '91 champ struggled with pain late in the day. A bad third loop score is all that kept him from finishing higher. "My ha nd h urt very much at the end of Sunday," Ah vala sai d . "It w as hard to ho ld o n when the pain-killers w ore of. Still, it w as better th an last weekend in Rhode Island." Young Kenichi Ku royam a was the bes t of th e four Japan ese riders, and finished only two poin ts behind Ahvala. The Beta Rays rider w as consistent, but not as good as th e rest. "I a m n o t ha p py w ith m y r id e today," Kuroyama said. " I d id not ride very well." Englishman Graham Jarvis w as elated to end day one in fourth aboard his radical -looking Sc o r p a Easy, bu t h e failed to im p ress o n day two and d ro ed a ll the wa back to ei hth. Aided by former World Champion Mal co lm Rathmell, Ja r v is s im p ly fell to pieces as the event progressed. Spaniard Marcel Ju stribo and Japanese Takahisa Fujinami rounded out the top 10. For the secon d event in a row, defending N ationa l C ham p io n Geoff Aaron was the best-p lacing American. The Cosmopolitan Motors Beta ri der was 17th overall, two positions shy of earning a world championship point. "lbe sections w ere big - much harder than they w ere in Rhode Island, " h e sai d . "I've learned a lot in these past two weekends." Jess Kempkes came next in 17th. Th e flashy Nebraskan made it through only five sections all w ee ken d long, attesting to the d ifficult level of the event. 0 Canadian World Round A lma, Canada Results: J une 1-2 (Round 5 of 10) O VERALL: Marc Col ome r (Man) 40 points/ 22 deans; 2.
