BRAINERD, MN, MAY 19
ilh tw o characteristically
forcefu l rides to win both of
this weekend's Formul a USA
races, 1994 F-USA champion Dave Sadowski showed that he is finally back on
form. After spend ing nine months rehabilitating a leg injury from a hard crash at
Grattarr last summer, he had two disastrous finishes a t the opening F-USA
round at Willow this spring. Since then
he has improved steadily, carding a fifth
and a sixth at Daytona, a pair of thirds at
Road Atlanta, and now a pair of wi ns
here. Sadowski and his Tea m LaBelle
W
Honda CBR900RR also shattered Brainerd's F-USA lap record (set in 1991 by
Rich Oliver on a Team Roberts Yamah a
YZR500 GP bike ) b y 1.5 se conds . The
wins moved Sadowski up into fifth place
in the points standings.
Fritz Kling recovered from poor starts
on the Dutchman Yamaha YZF/FZR1000
in both races to score an intelligent third
and a second, man aging to finish ahead
of points lead er Tray Batey on his Team
Valvoline Suzu ki GSXRllOO both times.
As a result, he nearly halved Batey's lead
to just 12 po ints and moved into second
pla ce, tw o po in ts ahead of Valvoline
Suzuki's David Stanton.
Determi ned riding by Chuck Graves
resulted in a sixth and a fifth for the
Team Graves / Motorcvcle Online Suzuki
GSXRlI OO and mai~tain ed his fourth
place in the standings.
The net effect was a tightening up of
the race for the cham pionship: With 10
races rem aining, a s p rea d of ju st 45
points covers the top five riders. And not
too far beh ind ar e a number of rid er s
who could still make a challenge for the
title. Scott Zampach nursed the Taylormade Saxon-Triumph to an eighth- and a
10th-place finish after a vibra tion developed during the first race, which put him
in sixth place in the standings just ahead
