BRAINERD, MN, MAY 19 ilh tw o characteristically forcefu l rides to win both of this weekend's Formul a USA races, 1994 F-USA champion Dave Sadowski showed that he is finally back on form. After spend ing nine months rehabilitating a leg injury from a hard crash at Grattarr last summer, he had two disastrous finishes a t the opening F-USA round at Willow this spring. Since then he has improved steadily, carding a fifth and a sixth at Daytona, a pair of thirds at Road Atlanta, and now a pair of wi ns here. Sadowski and his Tea m LaBelle W Honda CBR900RR also shattered Brainerd's F-USA lap record (set in 1991 by Rich Oliver on a Team Roberts Yamah a YZR500 GP bike ) b y 1.5 se conds . The wins moved Sadowski up into fifth place in the points standings. Fritz Kling recovered from poor starts on the Dutchman Yamaha YZF/FZR1000 in both races to score an intelligent third and a second, man aging to finish ahead of points lead er Tray Batey on his Team Valvoline Suzu ki GSXRllOO both times. As a result, he nearly halved Batey's lead to just 12 po ints and moved into second pla ce, tw o po in ts ahead of Valvoline Suzuki's David Stanton. Determi ned riding by Chuck Graves resulted in a sixth and a fifth for the Team Graves / Motorcvcle Online Suzuki GSXRlI OO and mai~tain ed his fourth place in the standings. The net effect was a tightening up of the race for the cham pionship: With 10 races rem aining, a s p rea d of ju st 45 points covers the top five riders. And not too far beh ind ar e a number of rid er s who could still make a challenge for the title. Scott Zampach nursed the Taylormade Saxon-Triumph to an eighth- and a 10th-place finish after a vibra tion developed during the first race, which put him in sixth place in the standings just ahead
