Thoug h Greg Pennington and Gary .Plaatze made valian t efforts , the race belonged to Q ui nones bo th times out. Quinones e mp loyed si m ila r tactics in the Over 25 Amateur class. taking the moto wins over Pennington in each moto session. In the 250cc Intermediate class. some riders sh ow flas hes of brilliance; Donovan Mitchell shines like a supernova. In his first tum on the track, Mitch ell conti nued to domi nate his class as he has thro ug ho ut Northe rn California competition in recent mon ths . After a great start in th e first combined Proll n te rm ediate moto behind the only two 2SOcc pros , Rick Ryan and Ju sti n Tiea mey, Mitch ell rode with poi se and confidence behind the more experienced riders . Ryan and Tieamey wen t on to place 1-2 in the rno ro, followed closely by Mitchell. Second Intermediate was Mike Hodges, earning runnerup on ly after an impressive ba tt le wi th Jo hn DePaw. In the second moto, Mitchell holeshot , then ra n out in front of the entire fie ld until Rick Ryan passed him for the lead abo ut three-qu arters of the way throu gh the moto. A few turns lat er, Tiea rney also slipped past Mitch ell, b ut Mitch ell still ma in taine d a hu ge lea d over th e other Intermediates. Ryan raged on to take the Pr o wi n, with Tiea mey second a nd Mitchell, third , for first Intermediate. Round ing out the top racers we re Mi ke Ho dges, John DePa w, Jesse Bath and Kevin Roach. The 125cc In termedia te class was com bined wi th the Over 25 Master class, gi ving the fans the first tes t o f hot l2Scc pil ot Jeff Northrop head -to-h ead against a Wily p ro like Rick Ryan. The first mota was exciting but the second moto had th e crow d on its feet as No rth ro p got the · holes ho t and held off Ryan for a number of laps before Ryan go t do wn to bus iness and pu t yet anot her, young charger in h is place. Ryan ran off with it from the re, followed by Northrop, but the battle wa s intense in the 125cc Intennedia te class for second throug h fifth place. Consistency literally paid off for Ty Kady as he picked up first-place cas h in the 250cc Pro class with a pair of seco nd -p lace finishes while Andy Anaya s hared mo to wins wi th Bria n · Swe a ny to claim 250cc.lntermediate overall honors.
