As the green flag flew so d id Team Tri-Star's Pete Martin s on hi s Texaco-H a vollne Su zuki, lead in g Marsh on his Sportbi kes of H ou st on powered Yamaha, wh o in turn was busy fendin g off th e adva nces of No rthwes t H onda 's Ronni e Lunsford . Behind Lunsford cam e Longh orn Moto rsports ' Hayd en on th e shrieki ng johnny Lander s /Red Line Oil TZ250 from his la st-row s tarting p os iti on . The leading fo ur qui ckly broke away from the pursui ng field . At the end of lap one the orde r remained the same wit h th e race rs ga u gi ng the ir co mpe titi on, search ing for an op po rtu n ity to pass. On lap three, Marsh found his way ar ound Martins as they went up the dog -leg hill lead ing in to the blin d tu m four. By th e fourth lap H a yd en fin all y go t by Lunsford on the bra kes going into tum two and immed iately began reeling in second-place Martin s. On e lap later Ha yd en had moved wi th in striking di stance, making the pass stick as they raced uphill to tum fou r a nd set hi s sig hts on For m u la One cha m pi on Marsh . By tu rn eig h t Hayd en was on Mar sh 's back tire and as they came across the start / finish line, Marsh powerwh eelied away from the wa iling TZ of Hayd en, only to have Hayd en close back up on the exit of tum one. This cat-and- mouse ga me ~onti nued w ith H ayd en trying e verything to sneak pa st Marsh bu t his every bid was de nied. Lapped ride rs then came into play, having a dra matic effect on the outco me. Hayd en d ived to the inside of two lapped riders as they we nt in to the stop-and-go tum tw o. Unfortunately for Mar sh, the obvious ly surprised lappers balked him as he attem pted get pa st and Hayd en was able to put ab out five second s on Ma rsh . Th e second·p lace rid er qu ickly mad e up the d eficit but once again tan gled with lappers while Hayden sna ked d eanl y throu gh and rode off wit h the win. Marsh held on for second with Martins and Lunsford beh ind . Wh ile Marsh was n o d oubt unhappy w ith h is se co n d- p lace fini sh th e Ya m a ha rid e r redeemed him self in oth er classes with wins in Vintag e Five, Vintag e Six and 1100 Superstock, as well as defeatin g the Form u la Th ree, Fonnula . Eades wins Trail-Way ST By Len Breech Photo by Ben Breech HANOVER, PA, APR 20 Tim Eades put his Eades Racing Rotax into the lead at the sta rt of the 600cc Expert-elass final and pr oceed ed to pu ll away from opening-race winner Mike McKee to claim his first-ever 600cc Expert win as Trail -Way Sp eedway switched ove r to Saturday evening racing. McKee did come back and repeat his win in the 250ee A class, while Ricky Win sett alm ost pu lled off a double with a late-rac e pass of Ken Yoder to take the 6OOee.Pro win , and was easily winning the Sports ma n final until his machine d ied coming off the final tum and he coasted to a fou rth-place finish behind winn er Yod er. Bob Sweeten returned to h is winning w ays as he the topped the 30+ class with joe Gately 40+ win. joe Zydinsky fou ght all race lon g to take the lead in the 125cc class, but since he was th e only Expe rt, he wo u ld ha ve won anyway. Ben Miller took second, but was the first B rider over the line for the win in his class. Don Prevost made his first sta rt here a winning one as he topp ed the 600ee B dass, and Brod y Miller held off his challenges for the 250ee win. After breaking down and givi ng Nick Lipria th e win a t th e op e ni ng rac e, Corey H orm es showed that he is not ready to give up his 8Occdass title without a figh t, as he p.u lled a wa y from Lipria for the win . jared Mees again won the 60ee final as did Chad Uhler in the 5Scc (~ ) class, whil e Frank Locke took the 5Scc (7-8) di visio on his new LEM. The 600ee Pros started off the windy, warm . eve ning w ith Yode r ju m ping in front of Ricky Win se tt , Ken Mohl e r and Rob Miller. A fte r keepi ng on Yoder' s tail for seve ral laps, Winsett slipped under Yode r ente ring the third tum on the sixth lap, and then put a few bike lengths on him. Du ring the las t ha lf of the ra ce, Mill er taking stayed on Moh ler's rea r tire , bu t could n't find the opening. Most of the Pros retu rned for the Spo rtsman fina l. an d th is tim e Win se tt gra bbed the lead from Yoder , jim Hass and Ph il Libh art . At the end of the second Lap, Libhart got by Haas and brou ght Shawn Mob ley along wit h him. Winsc >tl had pulled out to almost a stra igh taway margin when he took the wh ite flag, but his bike d ied com ing off the: final turn. .Thi s gave Yode r his first Expert win in some time, as Winsett pushed his way across the line just bar ely in fourt h. Dieter takes two at Hunt Motocross By Mic hael Haras ml sz Photo by Jack Haley HUNT, NY, APR21 After spending the season riding the Mini class last year, Aaron Dieter made the move up to a 125cc a winning one as he too k the overalls in both the 125cc Novice and Schoolboy d asses at the seaso n ope ne r at Hunt Mot o Park, whi ch was also round two of the Western New York Sports Committee Spring Series. Some 465 riders turned ou t to com pete on the ch alle ngi n g natural-terrain tr ack wi th its ma ny off-camber turns, hairpins and hills to test rid ers' skills. A.j. Bourne jumped ou t to an earl y lead in the first 125cc N ovice moto with Don Cannan a nd Dieter close Behi nd. Bourne con tinued to hold on t o firs t p lac e as Carman and Diet er fo u gh t o ve r th e ru n n er-u p p osition . Dieter moved into second at the m idway point of the mot o. Bourne took the win with Dieter second and Carm an in third. Jimmy Miller wa s fourth after moving up from a bad start . Carm an took the holesh ot in mota tw o with Dieter and James Hollenbeck in his roost. Dieter wasted no time as took over the lead from Carman in a jump section and never looked back. Dieter took the win and the overall wh ile Car, man was second, holding off a fast-a pproaching Heath Wadhams, who finished third. First-mota winner Bourne was fourth , which was good for fourth overall. In Schoolboy-dass action Dieter grabbed the ea rly lead in b oth m ot os with Bourne d ose beh ind each time ou t. Dieter w on bo th motos for the overall while Bourn e was a close second at the flag in both motos for second overall.
