CA, APR. 21 Suzuki-mounted Danny Smith blasted ou t double moto win s in round four of the AMP Racing / FMF/ Mechanix Wear / Yamaha of Mod esto '96 Spring Series to win the 125cc Novice di vision at Hollister Hills SRVA. Smith shu t the d oor on his competiti on in moto one as he ove rpowered Danny Ornelas, Mi ke Aiello and Craig Trugli o in turn on e. Ornela s followed Smith closely as Aiell o and Tru glio battl ed for third, wh ile YZ8Q-mounted Ryan Morais took contr ol of fourth. Smith took the checkered flag with Orn elas abou t three seconds behind . Trug lio went down leaving Aiello with third and Morais fou rth. In moto two it ap peared that the tables had turned . Ornelas got the jump out of the gate and pull ed the holeshot, but after just one lap Smith was on his tail. As the crowd cheered them on, they race d side by side for the next four lap s. Finally, on the last lap Smith pa ssed Orn elas. Mean wh ile, Morai s wa s ha mm ering aw ay at Trugli o in the batt le for third . Four in a row they jumped the trip le in to the last corner. (Above) Ryan Orr (9) leads Bob Woo lsey (201), Mike Alvaro (94) and the rest of the 125cc Beginner class at California Perr is Raceway. Alvaro went on to win the moto. the win, whi le Morais got by Trug lio, and then Ornelas, to finis h second. Truglio edged out Ornelas for third. Jeff Brownlee and Dav ey Duarte battled it ou t in the 250cc Intermediate an d Un limited di visions . Brownlee won the first 250cc moto in a hard-fought race with Duarte, but crashed in m o to tw o a nd co uld on ly sa lv age seco nd . Duarte took the win and the overall on 2-1 mota scores. In th e Un lim ited clas s, Brown lee w as flawles s as he held off a doubl e att ack from Duarte and Cory Morais in both motos. In the 125 and 25 0cc Pro divi si on s, Pat Gomm set a blistering pace to beat series leader Dustin Bloomfield in all four motos . Bloomfie ld was his only real competition and stayed very close th rou ghout both 125cc motos but could never find a lin e aro u nd Go mm . In the first 250cc moto, Bloomfield led all the way down to the last lap bu t Comm mu scled his way around Bloomfield when he had to and took the win , Other good racing saw Mike Johns on the victor over Rand y Medley and Mickey O'Shaugh nessy in the Vet Pro class, and in the 60ce Beginner class, Eric Stoke took the win as he trad ed moto victories with Brand on York. Dustin Nelson pu t his Team Green Kawasaki up front in the first combined Pro moto but was no match for Brand es, whose crafty riding style was more than Ne lson could handle. Once up front, Brand es extended his lead while Cameron Taylor dogged Nelson for second. Brandes went on for an easy victory wh ile Nelson shook free of Tay lor to secu re second. Micky Griffin traded in his strange-lo oking PW80 for a new YZBO and scored his first-ever win in the 80cc Beginn er class. Though Patric k Terry kep t the issue in dou bt right up to the finish line, Griffin stood firm and held on for the overall win . Ryan Martinez finished third in his firs t race ever, while Adam Bisso and Bruc e Wilkinson rounded out the top five. Graves grabs gold at Willow Springs Road Race By Eric Vincent ROSAMOND, CA, APR. 2()'21 Chuck Graves powered his wa y to his second stra ight victory in the Toyota Gold Cup Formula One Road Race series during the fou rth round of Willow Springs Motorcycle Club racing at Willow Springs International Raceway. Craves led the race from start to finish on his G raves Mot orsp o rt s -s p on s o red Su zu ki GSXRllOO. He was initially challen ged for the lead by Cu rtis Ada ms and Peter Christense n. Desp ite some early attempts by Adams to pass Grav es , Adams was unable to m ou nt a chal lenge, leaving Graves with a relatively easy victo ry . Adams fin ished in second w it h Christensen ending up in third. "Earlier in the day the wind was blowing in , the oppos ite d irection, and it was easier getting through turns eight and nine so my lap times were quicker," Adams said on the victory podium. In the WSMC / Tom Sera Racing Form ul a Two race, Steve Teschke gra bbed the holesho t off the line followed by Robbie Dow ie in second and Karl Lowry Jr. in third . Rou nd ing tum nine to complete the first lap , Low ry wa s all ove r Dowie 's rear tire. Lo w ry continued to challenge Dowie throughout the second lap. In the front straight to sta rt lap three, Dow ie and Lowry were side by side, bu t Dow ie ma nage d to keep Lowry at bay . Rou nd ing turn eig ht in lap three, Lowry made another attempt to get past Dowie on the ou ts id e, but o nce aga in h is efforts came u p short. However, several turns later, Lowry succeed ed in passing Dow ie and ve ry quickl y opened up a bit of a gap. Havin g been pushed back into third, Dow ie now faced a challenge from a cha rging Richard Pad illa, who closed and passed Dowie in tu rn two . Pad illa continued to hold third for the rem ain der of the lap, but on the front str aigh t to start lap four , Dowie caught an d p as sed h i m .
