Hatch was back in the lead with two laps to go while teammate Smith rode sh otgun, six ticks down. Plessinger was an o th er 25 seconds back, th en came Hawkins. Summers had slipped behind th e leading quartet and was in danger of losing con tact. His fate was sealed w hen he dropped more than three' minutes off the lead pace.
