Kevin Townsend and Dan "Sky" King p icked up
the 125cc an d 250cc Novice-class ove rall wins
d u ring Ca li forn ia Ra ci n g Club' s Su nday
motocross at Los Angeles County Racewa y.
In the first 12See mo ta Bryan Lang timed the
ga te d ro p to perfection an d grabbed the lead
over To,vn send a nd Jose Polasek. Lan g we nt
dgwn, h and ing th e lead to Townsend. Ch ris
Thompson came fro m a mid pack start to pass
Polasek for secon d place and catch the leader.

take the w in. Dean Ostrand er put a last
on Polasek for third.
Thom pson h olesh o t moto tw o, but a so il
sa mple on the openi ng lap dropped him back to
sixth. Lang took control until he ran off the track
aJlowi ng Townsend the opportun ity to lead .
Lead he did. slow ly pulli ng awa y from the field
for the second-moto win. Thompson battled his
way back up th rou gh the pack for seco nd at the
checkers and in the final standings.

Round one in 250cc NO\· ce action saw Bryan
Lamborn pu ll out the early lead over Brett Bennett and Graham Howell. King came cha rging
up ou t of the pack to d isplace bOlh Bennett and
Howell by lap two . King cau ght Lamborn and
ate plenty of sand be fore find ing his way into
the lead on the white-flag lap . Lamborn stayed
glued to King's rear fender all the way to the finish. Howell was third over Cole Town'iend and
Tyler Buck. .
King got the start he needed in m ot a' tw o
ov er Lam born, Buck and Bennett. King and
Lamborn hoo ked up and separated them selves
from the others in the ir battl e for the lead . King
pu t a one- tu m advantage between himself and
La mborn . La mb orn couldn't catch King/but

The Yamaha Challe nge Weekend did dou ble
duty as a n area quali fier for Lorett a Lynn' s,
drawing 818 entries from 15 states.
Sellards ho leshot the first 12Sec A m ota, followe d by Scott Graves, Kevin Walker an d Cha rlie Dun away. Walk er overtook Sella rds by the
end of lap one, the n ga ined some room wh en
Sellar ds fell on the last lap . Sellar ds rem ounted
to finish seco nd . j im Chester stayed on the gas ·
to wo rk up to th ird from a fifth-place start, followed by James Evans and Duna way, Graves
crossed the line in sixth.
Sellards ow ned moto two, focusing att ention
on the ba ttle fo r second . Th e harder Chester
pre ssured from third, the closer Walker rode to
the ragged edge, unt ij"finally Walker spun ou t,
handing second to Chester. Wa lker recovered
still in third, pursued by Josh Sweat, Dunawa y
and Evans . They cros sed the line in that orde r.
Chester leaped to the fore on the start of the
first mot a of 250cc A, with Sellards and Sweat
sticking to him liKe duct tape. Sellards followed
Che ster for a lap and finall y powered into th e
lead com ing u p the sta irs tep se ctio n. Aft er a
couple of swaps, Sellards took the lead for good .
Walker had climbed from se venth to thi rd by
mid race, forang Chester to go faster so that the
p air pull ed a 10-second gap on fourth place
Sw eat . At th e b ase of the s ta irs tep s, Ches ter
appeared to have the advantage, but Walker
took the ou tsid e line and shot alongside Chester,
zapping him by half a wheel at the flag for second .
Wa lker holeshot th e secon d round, only to
fall less than a lap into the race and hand over
the lead, and th e win, to Sellards . Ches te r
hooked up with the Kawasaki jockey, letting

third and fourth in the ma lo, followed by Wa lker in fifth for third overall.
