Lampe dropped it on the third lap ha ndin g the lead to Hawth orne, but Sh eed y mad e hi s mov e and held on fo r a close w in over Hawth orne an d Rand a. In the 's econd moto Randa was hack in form w i th a h ol esh ot fo ll owed by Sheedy, Lampe, and Hawthorne. Randa held the lead till the third lap, wh en Sheedy pu shed his way by. Ra n d a kept Sheedy h onest wi th on ly a bike length between them a t the flag. Lamp e bobbled midrace, allowing Hawthorne and Jeff Hill into third and fou rth with Lampe holdin g on to fifth. Ther e w as some exciting raci ng in the Over 40 class with Gary Peak getti ng a run from Dave Sh umway. In th e first mot a Peak turn ed left inste ad of right in the back section, allowing Schumway an easy pass . Peak came hack to take the win , with Schurnway dr oppi ng the bike bu t ho lding on for second ahead of Loren Cook. The second moto wa s a great race between Peak and Schumwa y w ith the lead cha nging almost ea ch lap . Blazek blazes at Metcalf MX By John Gola SA. \JJOSE, CA MAR. 24 , Greg Blazek tra veled all the wa y from central Oregon to ta ke top honors in th e Sportsma n 250cc and 500cc Expe rt races at Metcalf Pa rk, round two of the AHRM A Norcal Series, an d also go t to wa tch his son Zach win the 125 and 250cc Novice classes. Neither win came easy for Greg. In the 500cc race, he went elbow to elbow with David Dotson for much of the five laps until squeezi ng by to take the lead . Blazek' s chances in the 250cc class looked dim when he was k'nocked down in tu m one of the first moto. From last place he wasn 't able to get around Geo rge Galling, bu t made up for it in the second mota by leadin g start- to-finL.h. In add ition to the Blazek clan, dou ble class winners included Jeff Naff, Larry Madrigal, and Rob Poole. Bill Knight and his Norton tu rned in two fla w less rid es to take the Pr emi er Op en Tw ins race, a n d Pet er Cru tte nd ~n s h owed everyone how to ride a little 250cc BSA quick ly. Al Wenzel and a crew of volunt eers worked ha rd to put on the d ay ' s e ve n ts . Karl Pitman Jr. had a slight ad vant age at the start of the first moto, bu t as the rid ers came through the w hoo p section it wa s Da ve Riley w ith th e lead , foll owe d b y Winburn, Mark Wickha m, Garth ,Tarlow an d Pitma n. Winburn took over the top spot on the start of the second lap,.bu t as the y ca me into th e infi eld section Win burn slid ou t in a corner let ting Riley and Tarfow go by for first and second respectively. Winburn was able to get back up for th ird as a hard -chargin g Wes Burr h ad made his way up to thi rd from a poor st art. Winburn ou tpac ed Tarl ow for second as they JTIade their wa y u p ."Sky Jump." Winburn ha d a faster pa ce going than the leade r Riley and caug ht up to challenge as they passed the scoring section . From there it was clear sailing as Winburn too k the win, with Mey second, followed by Tarlow, Burr and Chri s I1u stre .
