Bobby Stovall took some time away from his studies to put in a str ong ride to take the run ner-u p sp ot behind Turlington. Anot her rider on the comeback trail, Patrick Slate, rou nd ed out the top three . Turlin gton, w ho ha ils from nearby Coa ts, North Carolina, is very familiar with the Devils Ridge race coarse, and it was quit e evident as he skated his way to the 250cc A first-mote win as smooth ly as he ha d do ne in the 125cc A class over Slate and Chris Anstead. Tu rlington's work was cut ou t for him in the second outi ng of 250cc A action as Sla te was revved u p and read y to go. Tur lington nabbed h is fourth and fina l holesh ot on the da y, with Slate pu lling up tight for the first lap. Slate grew tir ed o f h av in g mud s lu ng in h is face a nd smoked past Turlingto n at the start of lap two, but soon started to have trouble wit h his goggles. Slate fough t w ith his goggles for about half a lap before tossing them. Turl ington turn ed up the heat and made his move back pas tSla te at the end of the ce nter st raight by hold ing on longer in a drag race to the come r. Turlington's wo rk was over as he walked off for the second 250cc A mo to win . Anstead wor ked up to take adv antage of the ungoggled Slate, which netted him second overa ll on the d ay.
