CA. MAR. lb-17 Chuck Graves returned to the Toyota Gold Cup Formula One Rood Race victory podium d uring the thi rd round 01 Willow Spri ngs Moto rcycle Club racin g at Willow Springs In ternational Raceway. Gra ves was fastest off the line, two months afte r he broke his collarbone in a racing accide nt in tum nine of this track . Curtis Adams was rig ht behind him and Peter Christensen was in third. Between turns two and three. Adams powered pas t Graves and took ove r the lead. At the star t 01 la p three, Graves drafted Adams down the lront stra ight, then passed him in tum one. But Adams was persistent, and in turn eight of the same lap he passed Graves again on the outside of the tum. Graves immediately used the draft to his advantage on the front straig ht and passed Adams once again. From that po in t on. Graves remained un challenged . • By the midway po int 01 the 14-l ap race, Graves had developed a solid lead but Adams was losing gro und to Peter Chris tensen. In lap eight, Christensen was right on Adams ' tail and succeeded in passi ng in tu m lour. Despite his best efforts, Adams was unable to retake second .. At the checkered. it was Graves with the win, Chris tensen in second and Adams thir d. In the Coors Light/Tom Sera Racing Formula Two race, six riders began di cing for the lead olf the line, but those efforts were cut sho rt by a red-flag cond itio n after th ree midpack racers crash ed in tum two . Jason Pade n qu ickly emerged with the lead in the race restart followed by Michael Mon toya and Bria n Ga rbe llini. While Paden rem ained unch a lle nged fo r the d u ra t ion o f th e s ix-la p event, Mon toya and Garbellini were side by side throughout as they battled lor second. While Mont oya led lor much of the time, Garbellini wo uld regularly power his way into second w hile rou n d in g the fas t tu rn-e ight sweeper.
