Wit h just three riders havin g a mathem atical shot at the champ ionship title, the stage was set for an all-out, hammerd own two ho u rs of in tense racing between Sport Cycl e Racing's Doug Blackwell, Morris and Sarges Suzukibacked form er seri es champion Robert Patterson. Morris le t his intentions be known right from the drop of the flag as he shot into an earl y lead with no sign of letting up. Blackwell gave chase as Patterson, Te a m Green/ Blooming ton Powe r Sports' Mike Sampson and Cycle Sheds KTM 's Jo hn Maschino stayed close. Morris came down the long hill heading into the scoring tent wi th the lead. But Sampson m a d e a wild pass on both Mo rris a n d Bla ckw e ll and took the point, only to hit a tree wide open, leav ing him dazed as the rest of the Pro class passed by.
