Lance Rickard held off Posca in the second mota to take third overall with 4-3 finishes . Mont ova and Neitzel returned to do battle in the !5Occ -In term ed ia te class wi th both getting around Fast-starter Colby Begin by the th ird lap of mota one . Neitzel was qu icker than Montoya th rough some d eep whoo ps to grab the lead . Montoya tried to retaliate wi th a block-pass in the following turn, bu t Ne itzel saw it com ing and squared off ear ly to mai nta in the positi on . Neitzel pu lled away to win by six seconds over Begin, who pu t in a gr eat las t-tap charge to pass Montoya for the ru nn er-up finish. Alth ough practice and the early motos sa w most rid er s slosh in g abou t in surviva l mod e, the rain ta per ed off by mid da y and the secon d round of motos was held on a dryi ng tra ck that was ru tted and bumpy bu t raceab le. One of the best races of the day was the Over 50 Expert event whic h included AH RMA Execu tive Direct or and two-time World Champion Jeff Smith an d ma n y-ti m e Bri tish a nd Europe an Cha mpion Dave Bickers . The win ne r of the first mo ta , howe ver, was H u gh Wea ve r of H ugh's Bultaco in Craryville. New York . Bickers wa s close in second pla ce, but Weaver showed that he was no strange r to mud d y con d itions an d never left an opening , Bickers ' mount w a.. a 400 CZ wh ich he said he had left in Sou the rn California in 1974 at the en d of th e Trans-AM A Series.
