Ho nda has n e ver ' pu blicly stated how close the firing is on th e NS R500, but it is probably around 70 degree s of cr ank an gle rotation. Under th is assumption, at 12,500 rpm, the seco nd pair of cylin ders fires 0.93 milli seconds after the first pair, and then ther e is a pause of 3.87 m illisecond s un til the first pair fires again. The NSR500V is a 100-d egree Vtwin, wi th an u n d iscl o se d firing in terva l. Assuming th at the interval is 100 d egrees , a n d th a t the p e ak po we r p oint in th e r pm r ange is 8900 (12.500 d ivided by root tw o ), then th e secon d cvlinder fires 1.87 millisecon d s afte r the firs t, followed by a 4.87 millisecond d we ll until the first cylinde r fires again. Both pu lses a re farther apart in tim e, w hic h should h elp the NSR500V rider ride at the traction limit o f the rear tire. The NSR500V might also be a better pl atform from wh ich to develop moto rcycle te chn o lo g y, as the NSR500 V-four has becom e overlv complex w ith vario us electro nic subsystems to control the engin e's explosive power. The slower-revving, lesscom plicated 500 V-twin ought to be easier to adapt to fuel injection than the high-revvin g V-four. If Hon d a is serious abo u t selli ng the NSRSOOV in 1997, they will need to prove its com petitiveness in 1996. Th e tr ack tha t loo ks most suited to th e NSR 500V is Shah Alam, wher e the d ifference between the 500cc and 250cc lap spee ds is a scant 0.94 mph the sma lles t of any of the Gran d Prix circuits.
