MAR. 2 AMA Expert Speedy Kell and Min i speedster Kurt Hawk were the stars of the evening's program during indoor short track action at the Oakwood Arena. Kell, making a come back bid after a yearlong la yoff, topped the Open Pro class. The ATK rider won the first of two heat races, bea ting Pro-Am rid er Willie Halbert and up-and-coming Eric Beers. Rickman , aboard a Rota x, beat fellow Experts [aso n :End er son and Jeff Rister in the second hea t. In the Ope n Pro mai n, Kell grabbed the lead and was never headed. Rickman fought off Enderson, Halbert and Rister to take second place. Hawk, the former AMA n umber-one 80cc rider had a sensational evening, topping the 80 a nd 125cc A mai n events. Th e Su zu ki rid er's evening started off by winning one of three 80cc heat races - the oth ers were won by Kyle Bunger and Jake Ho lden - and t hen b eating AMA Na tional 80cc Cha mpion Hol den and Bung er in . theA main. FEB. 24 Kev in Ha sten claimed the wi n in the Senior Amateur/Expert race after a dis mal three-kick start in the Checkers M.e. European Scrambles. The day's racing started off with combined Women, Mini , and Super Seniors classes. At 9 a.m. the banner dropped and the racers headed up the bo mb ru n towards the trail. Michelle Cassella was ou t in front and hard on the'gas as she passed the bomb. Super Senior Willie Eveland was next, followed closely by a fast mini piloted by Ku r t C asselli. Su pe r Se n io r Gus Pa ull climbed thro ugh the pack to take the win in that class. Cassell a held the po in t positio n in the Wom en class througho ut the race to take tha t win, with Casselli doing likewise in the Mini class. In the Senior Amateu r/Expert race, Hasten took the win from Ga ry Garland. First Ama teur Tom Pu rdy said he enjoyed a troub le-free ride on his way to the class win . In th e Vet Amateur/Expe rt race, it was Greg Zitterkopf all the way in the Open Expert division. The Team Gree n racer looked very fast as he charged the entire race and cruised in fo r the win, followed b y tea m m a te Pau l Krause. First 250cc Yet Expert was Gary Scheidler, who was on the gas all the way to the finish . Next up was the comb ined 125, 250, 500cc, and Four-St roke class as Amateur/Expert race. Krause and Eric Hallgath were neck and neck passing the bo mb, w ith Hallga th ga ining the advantage as they headed out onto the trail. Krause may have lost the battle, but he won the
