Truccoli trashes Carlsbad MX By Dave Burgess CARlS BAD CA,FEB. 24 , Keith Truccoli pu t in two impressive moto wins on his 12SecSuzuki to cap ture the Pro-class win at the Racing Enterp rises Saturday Motocross at Carlsbad Raceway. Midweek rains and clear Saturday skies combined to make track conditions perfect. A small turnout of Pros resulted in the 125s and 250s being combi ned , and only the Vets were scored separately. As the gate fell for the first mo to, Ho nda rider Willy Musgrave blasted his CR250 into the lead ahea d of Rob ert Jo nas, Fink Juige n and Werner Sehruf, all on KTMs. The three K1M riders, all from Germany, locked up in a tigh t lefthand tum, allowing Truccoli and Chad Kresge to close the gap . Musgrave slipped away for the Vet win unchallenged, but a five-bike freight tra in was battling be hi nd him. Tr uccoli sq ueaked his Suzuki around Schruf and Juigen and set his sig hts on jonas . jonas was riding flaw lessly and Truccoli was d isadvantaged on the sma ller 125. Truccoli ma d e an aggressive move on the downhill for the lead on the last lap and made the pass. Jonas immediately tried to retaliate, and crashed on a massive kicker jump at the bottom of the downhill. Truccoli cruised to the fi nish clean, ahead of Kresge, J uigen and Schruf. jo nas' crash retired him for the day. Musgrave got his cus tomary holeshot in the second moto and ra n away with the Vet win. Truccoli and Kresge had a Zo-minute, handlebar-to-handlebar battle that lasted the entire moto. The two riders exchanged the lead several times, and although Kresge appeared to be the faster of the two , he was unable to put the power to the ground and Truccoli took the lead for good on the final lap to secure the moto and the overall. In. the always-competitive 250cc Intermediate class, Tim Beaty was the dominant force on the day and took a pair of firs ts to the trophy sta nd. Results 125 BEG: 1. Todd Wood (Suz). 125]R: 1.
