was dogging Conaway, lookin g to make the pass
an d win the moto. Co ming down off the ove rand- under jump, Tebo pulled next to Conaway.
A lapped rider caused Tebo to come up short off
a jump, sw a p p ing sideways and going d own
hard just before the finish line. Conaway took the
firs t-mote win, with B erning seco nd a head of
McMillen . Teb o injured his wrist, bu t lim pe d
across the line for fourt h ahead of Hamid Smith.

the first turn but drifted wid e, allowing Tripp,
Co na way, Alek Sp inell i a nd McM illen to go
underneath- Aemin g qui ckly passed Spinelli and
sta rted ho unding McMilJe n, w hile Tripp a nd
Cona way were having their own battle out front.
Tri p p a nd Co na way played tag until Trip p
seemed to tire towa rds the end of the malo and
slowly d rifted back to a ftfth-place fInish. AeIning
finally got aro und McMillen and took up where
Tripp left off on the last lap. Conaway managed
to stay a f"", feet ahea d of Aeming for the win.
McMillen crossed the finish third followed by
Karl Allen.

A pair of good starts helped Craig Conaway prevail in a tough V~t Interm ediate clas~ d uring California Racing Clu b's Sunday motoc ross a t Los

over Ed Tripp, Conaway and Mike McMill en .
Tripp and Co naway we re all over Flemi ng as

Conaway found a way around both Trip p and
Aeming by the second lap. Aeming stayed within
striking range as Tri pp faded and was passed by
McMillen. Bruce Teba fl"", throu gh the field after
a first-lap crash to push Mc.\1i1len back to fourth
at the halfway point. Teba reeled in the two frontrunners and outbra ked Hemi ng in a comer to

Michael Montoya survived a heated battle to captu re the Coors Light and Tom Sera Racing Formula Two Grand Prix race victory at the second
mund of Willow Springs Motorcycle Club eve nts
at Willow Springs International Raceway.
Robbie Dowie was the fastest rider off the F-2
line followed by Steve Teschke, wh o was quickly
caught and pa ssed by a cha rging Mon toya .
Dowie was passed in turn one of la p tw o by
Montoya and Brian GarbeUini
Montoya and Garbellini began a fierce battl e
for the lead . Coming d own the front stra igh t to
com pIl>te lap three they were side by side, with
Montoya managing to hold off Garbe llini. A lap
later, Garbellini was mo re succ~sfuI. passing
Montoya on the fmnt straight. The d uel continued , with Montoya retaking the lead in the back
straigh t of lap six. In the final lap , as the riders
ent ered turn eight, Garbellini suddenly applied a
burst of speed and closed rapidly. At the line, the
two riders were very close, but WSMC officials
declared Montoya the winner.
In the Summit Inn 750 Superbike race, Kenny
Kopt.'Cky grabbed the holes ho t, but was passed
by Paul Mumford in the second tu rn . 5<.'COnds
lat er, Kopecky lost second to Keith Ma cBet h.
Mumford pu lled off the track in the second lap
with a mt>ehanical p roblem, surrende ring the
lead to MacBeth. Jerry Evans rode in second with
Kopt.'Cky third. By the ,"ltd of lap three, Evans was
closing t he gap on MacBeth. Meanwhile,
Kopt.'Cky was passed by Larry Schnur for third .
As the lead ers completed lap four , MacBeth and
Evan. were side by side down the front stra ight.

Co ming ou t of tum one, Evans hdd the ad vantage. With no lead chang es in the top three for the
remainder of the race, Evans took the win , followed by MacBeth St.COnd and Schnur third .
