Texter hea de d in front of Estok, Gibbs; and Nobles. When the leaders left the chicane on the fourth lap, 6n the ru n to the halfway mark, Zampach w as mid track, above Wait, with enough room for Bostrom to sweep by and take the lead briefly, Wait taking it back befor e the first tum, Hermans lurking just behind. Bostrom used the Internation al Horseshoe on the fifth lap to retake the lead and held it onl y the back straight when Wait went by, but too earl y, with Bostrom in front into the chicane. The nex t lap saw Herma ns d rop slightly, lose the draft, an d set tle into an unc hallenged fourth. The o rde r rem ained the same for the rest of the infield, onto the ba nking and int o the chicane . Leadi ng ou t of the chicane, as Za mpach knows, is not the best plan, unless you have an excep tional motor. Bostro m led them in, th en out, all three goi ng d own low on the banking, following Bostrom for the run to the flag, wit h Wait just in front of Bostrom and Zampach. "I just took a big gamble that I could get through the chicane fast e no ugh where I cou ld break the draft, bu t it just didn't work," Bostrom lamented. "It was a real close, real even race ou t there. I'm happy to be in Daytona 's Victory Lane one more time." Hermans came along in third, about seven seconds late r, and comfortably in front of the fight over fifth . Texter got tbe best of it, having held the spot most of the race, then came Gibbs and a near dead heat for seventh with Estok just in front of Nobles.
