him relentlessly, with Chester, Woolsey,
Yezek and Buehl m akin g up a tigh tly
formed group of leaders. By the end of
lap two, Yezek and Buehl had gotten by
Woolsey for fourth and fifth while tryi n g to catch t h e le a d e r s, who were
beginning to get away. Jones decided to
put a move on Gaddis and took the wall
line down through the whoop section.
They came across the big jump toge ther
with Jones being ab le to force the inside
line on Gaddi s, s tripping hi m of th e
lead.
Jones then opened up athree-second
lead tha t Gad dis couldn't overcome .
" I don' t like m aking excuses, but 1
was lo si n g m y clu t ch and that w a s
th rowi ng m y timi ng off," a disa ppoi nted Gaddis said later .
Buehl s li p ped by Yezek for fou rth
and tracked do wn Ches ter, takin g third
away fro m Ch est er but proceeding no
fur ther up in the finishing order.
"I felt goo d toni ght in both classes,"
Bueh l said. " I think I could ha v e
imp roved in the 250s, bu t I was rid ing a
little bit too ten tatively and let the l eaders ge t away. 1 learn ed my lesso n. Next
tim e, I'll pu ll th e ho les hot and fo rge t
abo ut it."
"I hope to be back tomorrow night,"
winner Jones said . "I' m sore now, but
we'll see."
SATURDAY
Buehl mad e Saturday's 12Scc main
event look much the same as the previous night when he ripped the holeshot
and p roceeded to set the pace for the
race . At one point early on, Jones made
a threatening bid in the whoop section,
but Bue h l s taved off the charge and
pulled ou t ahead to avoid another confron tation. Behind the two front-runners
were Yezek, Ga d dis, DeH oop and th e
Kawasaki o f Sh awn Morgan . DeH oop
wo uld relinquish his position to Morgan
before the ha lfway point.
Buehl opene d u p a six-secon d lead
ove r Jon es and Yezek, who themsel ves
h ad a four-second lead over Gaddis.
Mor gan see me d to be ' con tent with
fo llowing Gaddis but cou ld not close
down to threaten anyway. Yezek made
various attempts to get by Jone s but was
denied as Jone s slammed the d oor shu t
each time.
Bu ehl e n ded up cr ossi n g th e li ne

125cc w ins for th e weekend. Jon es and
Yezek filled ou t the podi um.
"That sta rt helps a lot," Buehl sai d.
"I got ou t there an d I wa s having a good
time and kept telling m yself to race to
win, and it seemed to work out p retty
goo d for me."
"I would have liked to ha ve wo n the
main event, bu t it is really hard to make
up time ou t there," Jone s said. "I weigh
190 pounds, and [erom y goes about 170,
so that really helps him."
The Kawa saki of Missouri KX piloted by Dou g Stone surprised the competition by taking the holeshot an d bein g
chased by Gaddis and Buehl into the
sand trap. Sto ne's limeligh t was shortlived as Gaddis woul d complete lap one
as the lead er. Stone also gave up positions to Jon es and Bueh l befor e lap tw o
w as d on e . DeHoop strip ped Stone of
fourth on lap three, but he was able to
reg ain it a few laps later.
Ju st before the mi dway point, Buehl
cras he d whil e t ripling th e fir st th ree
jumps of th e d ouble-d ouble portion of
the track.
"I came over the triple, an d I th ink 1
caught a rut on th e b a ck si de of th e
triple, " Bu ehl said . "It h a p p e n e d so
quick, be fore 1 knew it, 1 was on the
ground," he said .
Bueh l's problems were compounded

found himself in thi rd once again only
to have Del-loop, Carsten and Morgan
sto rm by. Carsten ap p lied pressu re to
DeHoop late in the race and forced his
way by to secu re third.
Gaddis ac cu m u late d abo u t a fourse co nd lead on Jones an d came hom e
with the win. Carsten filled ou t the last
trophy pl ace with DeHoop and Morgan
ro unding out the top five.
"I felt good," Gaddis said. "I got out
fro n t an d d id n' t look back. 1 kept m y
head on and won the race. I was happy."
"I give all the credit in the world to
Jimmy," runner-u p Jones sai d . "He's a
good friend of m ine, and if 1 can't win,
it would definitely be him 1 would want
to wi n. You can't make up any time out
there. He had four or five bike len gths
on me, an d he held it right to the finish."
Buehl may have been able to na rrow
the point differenc e between hi mself
and Gaddis had it no t been for his poor
finish in the last 250cc race. As it stands,
Buehl is ju st 28 points away from tying
Gaddis, an d there are still two events
