,IN R IE Dirt tracker Joe Kopp - TE V W DUNLOPAD STOPPER NUMBER THREE "As an aggres s i ve sport rid er, I 've not ice d that m y ' front brakes fa d e after repeated hard braking. Why is that?" Simply put, brakes fade due to elevated heat buildup between the pad and rotor. This, in turn, leadsto a breakdown of the brake pad compound and an excessive amount of heat transfer into the brake fluid. When this occurs, the brake pad slides on the rotor instead of gripping it causing brake fade. Toa certain degree, brakes should experience some heat buildup, but not to the extent that it affects your braking power. Dunlopad has developed a special sintered metal sport compound designed to address the above 'conditions and, specifically, the needs of 'sport bike riders. The top-rated DunlopadS55 DP Sport pads feature a Zirconium-based ceramic heat shield that providesa thermal barrier between pad and caliper reducing heat transfer. And, because the S55 DP Sport pads are sintered, their braking performance actually improves as they get hotter allowing for consistently powerful two-finger braking without fade. The S55 DP Sport is available in sizes for the front of all popular sport bikes. So, when it comes time to replace your brakes, insist on Dunlopad sintered brake pads ... available at all major motorcycle shops. "Then if every thi ng go es well and Harley-Davidson of Sacramento wants me to ride for them again in '97, I think we could do it." Co me what ma y, Kop p says h e is ready to get dow n to business. " I' m going to d o m y pa rt," Kopp sai d. "With all the effor t that Ha rleyDav ids on of Sacramento is putti ng in, and Kenny, I'm not going to just go there to ride the bikes. I definitely wa nt to do all I can to make this a better team this year. I think it's gonna be a good deal, and I wan t to be in good shape for it." It looks like Joe Kopp alread y is.
