When my kids and I first met him, it w as at the .Hangtown National in 1995. H e took tim e to talk with US and take pictu res and sign my kids ' jerseys. W e ran into McGra th again a t th e Washo ugal National and again at the Ana heim Su percross. He was fr iendly and remembered us from ou r previous meetin gs. For those of yo u who haven 't had the opportunity to meet h im, I am sorry because you are missing out. I felt com pelled to w rite because of the bad pre ss h e h as b een ge t ting la tel y . On anothe r note, to all at Team Honda, especially Wes McCoy and Gary Christopherthank you so mu ch for taking the time to give my kid s a tour of th e Honda headqu arters and a chance to m eet some of the great people at Hond a. San dy, Tyson and Travis Enzweiler Aptos, CA • McGrath - bad guy It's kin d of interesting to see peop le gett in g th eir h a ck le s over th is Jeremy McGr ath thing. He re we ha d somebody poin ting o ut the irony o f a si tua tion w here a wo rld-famous motorcycle racer, Jeremy McGrath, is supporting disc rimination against motorcyclists (by purchasin g a h om e in Canyon Lake). And the resp onse is a vehement: "Ho w dare you tell a guy wh ere he can or cannot live!" Well, I say nobody is telling Jeremy where to live. Rath er, this is a m atter of pointing out a simp le 'fact. An d besid es, w hy sho u ld a law-a bi di ng ci ti ze n be denied the ri ght to opera te hi s or h er legally license d vehicle (a motorcycle) on the same ci ty streets th at ca rs use in Cany on Lake? It d oes n ' t matter w ho founded th e place - be it jeremy's great u ncle, moth er , b ro th er, or the Ea ster , Bunny (though I sus pect that the town's founders probably didn't have motorcycle bans at the top of their list). The fact is, buying a home there su pports this unfair policy. A gu y like Jerem y could have pur chased a hom e just about anywhere - it is unfortunate he chose Canyon Lake. Let' s just hope that he doesn 't decid e one day that he'd like to go out for a ride, because he won' t be able to do it there. Kevin E.
