Hon nold grabbed th e ea rly lea d ah ea d of Shawn Mci ntosh, Joel Ne lso n an d Matt Gold sm ith. By the se cond lap, Mci nt osh ha d mad e his way past Honnold an d enjoy ed a five-second lead. Ne lson continue d to hold down thir d over Golds mith an d Garit Wallace as the tw o frontrunners sta rted to pu ll away, Mcintosh 's lead lasted a lap before Honn old closed back in an d retook the top spot. Mcintosh stayed close to Honn old a nd a cou p le of la ps later was once again ab le to make the pass in the tig hter mot ocross sec tion of the course to run out front. The next trip throu gh the high-speed d esert porti on of th e track sa w Honnold once a gai n in th e le a d p o si ti on w he n McI n t o sh slowed slightly with a temporary han d problem . Mci n tosh w as qu ickly up to speed and a sh ort time later was running out front in ye t another lead chan ge. The last lap saw Honnold give it everything he had left after 40 minutes. He pu t one las t pass on Mcintosh an d kept the th rottle p inned to slowly pull away on the final circuit for th e well d ese rved victory.
