(Below) Despite post ing less-than-stellar results over the weekend, Greg Rand (7) thrilled the crowd with so me high-Ilylng acrobatics. . By Pam Lam bert Photos by Jeff Cox NIAGARA FALLS, NY, JAN.19-20 he honeymoon capital of the world was provided with new sights and sounds as the MSR/ Answer/KBC Helmets Arenacross, round six of the PJ1 Super Arenacross Series, invaded the Niagara Falls Convention Center. The sellout crowd witnessed another great battle between series points rivals and Thor /Kawasaki Team Green teamma tes Jimmy Gaddis and Jeromy Buehl, with Gaddis jumping back into the overall series lead after winning the 250cc main event on Friday and then sweeping Saturday's compe tition to claim three m ore main-event wins. For his part, Buehl hung tough by claiming the 12Scc main event on Friday to keep a firm hold on second place in the series standings. But there were also a cou ple of sur-' prises during the weekend as tw o young Kaw asaki riders put together spectacular rides and joined the ranks of podium finishers. Andy Bowyer and Brad Woolsey ea ch m ade it to th e pod ium ove r th e weekend with Bowyer taking third in the 125cc main on Friday and Woolsey grabbing a third in the 250cc main later in the evening. T FRIDAY 14 Buehl n ailed the start o f th e 125cc main event, bla sting into the lead while disaster str u ck behind him as Todd Del-loop, Cliff Palmer, Greg Rand, Trey Owens and Gaddis all went down in the first turn. Gaddis was the o n ly rid er able to remount quickl y, fo llowed by Owen s. DeHoop and Rand rejoined th e racing during the second lap while Palmer sat on a ha y. bale trying to recover . Buehl rode around out front while Bowyer followed with Woolsev in third. Gaddis burned ~veral laps before he was able to begin picking off riders, but once the reigning champion regained his rhyth m a nd speed, he w ent into noholds-barred mod e. He went by four riders quickly, then around Carlo Coen after a full -lap battle. Once Gaddis rea ched midpack, he found himself in lapped traffic containing Del-loop, Owens and Rand. On each lap, Gaddis picked and chose his lines, and passed them one by one, moving up on the third-pla ced Woolsey on the ninth-lap of the 16-lap main. With experie nce on his side, Gad dis found his way around Woolsey for third and then around Bowyer for second place with three laps to go. But Buehl was running a pressure-free race up front, and Gaddis sim ply could not close the gap in the rem ainin g lap s. Buehl went on to score the win with Gad dis second and Bowyer hanging on for th ird . Woolsey took fourth, th e la s t unlapped pos ition in the field. Rand thought tha t he had the holesh ot in the 250cc main, but he was relega ted to the third row for hitting the rubber band on the start. On the restart, Anth ony Morgan took the holeshot before being press u red im mediatel y by Palmer, who position. The only real nail-biter came when Gaddis leaped over the triple with his front wheel straigh t up in the air and slammed down in what looked to be an " inevitable crash, only to save it somehow and stay ahead of Buehl for the win. Gaddis was flawless off the start of the 250cc main with Buehl trailing in second, lo oking for any op en ing to h elp him make a p ass. Palmer scoo te d p a st Woolsey in the whoops to take over thir d and closed on Buehl while Woosley held off a hard charge by Rand . Gaddis seem ed to got stronger as the race progressed and pulled out a decent lead over Bueh l, wh o was also able to put distance between himsel f and Palmer. After th e h alfw a y point, la ppers cause d Gaddis to slow a few times, and Buehl pulled w ithin stri ki ng di stan ce only to encounter lappers himself, allowing Gaddis to pull away again. When the ch e cke re d flag s wa ved , Ga d d is to ok ano ther win with Buehl in the runner-up position and Palm er third. Woolsey p ut in an other smoo th rid e to fini sh fourth f~ while DeHoop took fifth. skim m ed the whoops to b'last into the lead . Buehl was in third until he and another rider locked bars; Buehl's ar m was knocked off his handlebar and he was thrown to the d irt. Buehl was dead last by the time he picked up his bike and got going again while Palmer continued to lead despite mounting pressure from Gaddis. The two then sw a p p e d places when Gaddis tripled past to take the lead, and then it was Palmer's turn to dog Gaddis. At the halfway flags, Gaddis still had the lead with Palmer in hot pursuit while Woolsey had slipped past DeHoop to secure third after Morgan crashed out of that pos ition. From that point o n, th e top places ap peared to be set in stone until Buehl worked his way thr ough the pa ck to challen ge Woolsey for th ird pl ace. Lap ped riders became a factor, and Woolsey used good lines, enabling him to hold on for his first podium finish. SATURD AY Consistency was the key to success in Satu rd ay ' s 125cc m ain e vent. Bu eh l pulled the holeshot, bu t Gaddis flew past when Bueh l decided not to do a triple while Gaddis successfully gassed it over the obsta cle to gain an advantage. Buehl remained in second followed by Palmer and Bowyer. The top riders held fast for all 16 laps, working their way through l~pped traffic and never once changing Niagara FallsConvention Center .
