·ARENACROSS PJ1Su rArenacross series R u d4:Will Rogers Coliseum on National Ch ampion Guy Cooper took the lead spot from Buehl in the whoops after the start, w ith Gad dis th ird and Oiff Palmer fourth. Cooper led for two laps before Buehl took back the lea d in th e sa me spot where Cooper had taken it from him - in the whoops. Gaddis held his gro und in third ahea d of th e ba ttl e bet ween DeHoop and ·Charley Bogard for fourth. Bogard hounded De Hoop and caught him in the corners bu t lost him d own the brief st ra ight. In front of a combined crowd of over 16,200, Bue h l rode his Team Green / Tho r-backed KX to 12Scc Expert victories on Friday and Saturday night while his Tu f teammat e, Tea m Gree n/ Tho rbacked Jimm y Gad d is, pro ved to be too tough for the rest of the comp etition in the 250cc main event on Saturday. Todd DeHoop was th e only rid er to spoil a perfect weekend for the Tuf Racing team by win ning Friday' s 250cc Main eve nt aboard his F&S Suz u ki/ Ans we r/ Scottbacked RM. A mere six points now separate th e fir st- p laced Buehl and the ru n ne r-u p Ga d d is in th e ser ies points sta nd ings w ith DeH oop remaining a stro ng con tender in third place. The race was run in conjunction with th e Fourth Annua l Dallas /Fort Worth Motor cycle and Sports Expo, produced and man aged by Mike Kidd Promotions. Buehl he ld his ground out front for the w in wh ile Cooper fended off Gaddis d esp it e swa ppi ng posi tions halfway thro ug h the m ain event, when Ga ddis fle w p as t Cooper ove r the rockers. Cooper wicked it up and was first to the next turn, securing second on the podium. "I k ne w Coo per was go ing fas t," Buehl said on the podium. "A nd I knew I had to be a little faster if I was going to win." Friday night' s 250cc main event was destined to be the race of the weekend as Bueh l was left on the ground in the fir st turn a fte r his success ful 125cc bid ju st 30 m in utes pr ior. De H o o p ra ced o u t fro n t th rou gh th e who ops at the start of th e ra ce, w ith Co op er in ' th e second posit ion. Brandon Lacey s ta r te d in th ird, but h is posi tion was sho rtlived whe n Pa lmer breezed through the whoops an d passed Lacey for th e number-three spot. The race tigh tened up with DeHoop defending his lead against both Coope r and Palm er, who gave it h is all in th e whoops at the beginning of lap six and passed Coop er for seco nd. But the top three met in the ne xt turn as th e y prep are d to ju m p the Red Dog Trip le. Cooper and Palmer landed side by side, wi th Cooper squaring o ff th e tu rn , p us hi ng Palmer high into the berm. Palmer tr ied to return th e favo r to Coop er in the next tu m at th e end of th e follow ing ju m p section, but Cooper wo uld have no part of it as h e conce ntrated on ca tc h ing DeHoop. Two laps lat er, Palmer had to bow ou t of the race w ith 1 laps to go. 2 " My CD I box came loose .and w as bou ncing betw een my forks and number plate, which killed my bike and any chance at a good finish," Palmer said. DeHoop continued to lead the race w ith Cooper breathin g do wn his airb ox, and Gaddis moving up to third. In the meantime, Buehl hadn' t let his first-turn fall hold him back, an d he gradually worked h is way throu gh th e pack to sixth. Cooper began to wor k magic on lap 14 when he caught DeH oop and then raced side by side wit h him over m ost of the jumps and into the turns. The white flag cam e ou t and everyone came to their feet wit h less tha n 30 secon ds rem aini ng till the fini sh . Th e Su z u ki r ide r s kept up t he ir s peed throu gh the w hoops, over the trip le, ou t of th e turns, and over th e step-up . With only three jumps and on e turn left be fore Vern Bell' s checkere d flag, Cooper ju m p ed in to th e last co rn e r, caug h t h is sho ul de r on the insi de ba rrel and went down.
