Dan Cath er' s comments (Issue #50, Janua ry 3) con cerning forcing "bikers" and
"moto rcy clis ts" (fu nny, I th ought we
were on e and the same) to use helmets
begs a response from us av id anti-he lmet-law ad vocates. First of all, d on't get
me wrong, I do advocate the use of helmets; I personally wear one and so do
m y Harley owner friend s. However, in
this over-legis lated country of ou rs, the
last thing we need is another law that
protects me from myself. If Dan and the others want to continue to use the cost of insu ran ce or subsid ized medical care as the reasons for
implem enting these law s, then I su ggest
th at th ey first tackle those thi n gs th at
really dri ve medical costs and insurance
ra tes thr ou gh the roof.
In Da n ' s world the u se o f tobacco,
liqu or, saturated fats and eggs woul d be
heavily restricted to ensure that people
staye d fit so the rest of us would not be
burdened wi th the cost s of maintain ing
their unhealthy lifestyle.
Get rea l; Dan - p ick a ca use m ore
