"!ies rocks atHappy Rock Trial

Ben Mics won first place in the Modem Class ic
Advanced class at the Happy Rock Vintage /
Beginner Trial at Mammoth Bar OHV Park.
Organizers Mary Rock and Mark Brosius
designed six sections with four loops . They we re
on ly given four weeks to do this trial and they
did a great job wi th such sho rt noti ce. Thirtytwo riders ent ered this event.
Mies ha s been rid ing in PITS e vents for
abo ut one year wi th his buddy and main competition, Shawn Frailing . Mies and Frailing
breezed through the trial taking only three
points. The rivals had to have a ride-off at section two and Mies came up wi th the win . Steve
Kusanovich wa s righ t behind with five po ints
and three clean loops.
The saga contin ued in the Junior Advanced
class: Andy Johnson and Greg Erwin had been
ba ttling all yea r long and it finally came dow n to
th is last event. On the first loop, Erwin came in
with three po ints and John son came in with a
clean. Erwin doesn 't look at the scores and never
gives up; on the second loop he had only one
point and the last two loops he cleaned the m all.
Rut Johnson cleaned the who le trial which gave
h im first place at this even t as well as first place
for the year .
The Mod ern Bike In termediate class was
won by John Silva. who rode h is Honda to the
eve nt, in the event and ba ck hom e. Silva be at
Joann Galb reath on her new Gas Gas by four
points, bu t Ga lbreath s till w on th e year-e nd

Expert-class racer Carlo Ceya made a spectacular come-fro m-behin d blast on his CR500 to nip
the Pro rid ers for the overa ll at the Wh iplash
Motorsports point-to-poi nt d esert race.
After reeling in KX25O-mou n ted Brian Storrie 100 miles into the 13D-mile race. Tuff Guy
Desert Racing Team member Caya set his sights
" on fro n t-runner Will Mundy an d pinned hi s
geared-to-the-eyes big-bore. Caya caught up to
Mundy within sight of the checkered flag. overailing the race by 10 seconds on elapsed time.
Third ov erall Sto rrie could on ly admit th a t
" there wer e too many long straigh taways for
me."
Th e Tuff Gu ys team fielded a strong nin erider team and came awa y with eight trophies.
Finishi ng some five min u tes behind Caya wa s
team member David Sch u tte , who wrung-the
neck of his CR250 to land fourth overall and second Expert. A tight battle between Expert riders
Steve Richards and Jim Jaquette was decided by
the clock. Small-bore racer Richards. who threw
up dust clouds fo r mil es, would no t al low
Jaquette to get close enough through the last four
miles of wide-open road to the finish and took
fifth overall ahead of Jaquette by 30 second s. 1:"Ii
