Phillipsv ille MXTrack . Shepp was one of the over 200 riders wh o br av ed the rain-soaked tr ack, enco u raged no doubt by the nearly 1000 spectators on hand. . Shepp was ready when the sta rting gate feU in mo to one of the O ld Time rs/Vete ran-class race, but Rod No rdstrum slid into the early lead through the first tum. Overnigh t rains followed by a steady morni ng d rizzle kept the track very slick in spots , but the w ide, multi-lined cou rse allowed the racers pl ent y of "elbow room" to slip and slide in, as evidenced by the unfortunate Shepp, w ho fo und the mudd y first tum offered more action than traction when he slid wid e to the ou tside . Vetera n race.rs John Gulyas and Phil Rose quic kly moved past Shepp and proceeded to tra de roos t and p lace s behind Nords trum. Mean whil e, Shepp recovered his groo ve well eno ugh to stay in the top five. The ord er wa s less decided through the rest of the pack as positions changed rapidl y during the early going. At rnid race, Nordstrum had a solid lead, with Gulyas, Rose, and Alex Ringer in front of Shepp . Despite more slips and sp ills, th e order held firm to the checkered flag. Rose hoieshot moto two with Shepp nipping at his heels. Vet jerry johnson also gated well to place third , followed by Old Timer Experts john Cooper and Rod Nordstrum. Impr oving weath er all o wed the sa nd ier tr ack sec tio ns to d ry quickly, making for a much faster and rou gher track . Shepp found the changing con di tions to his liking and roosted Rose to take the lead on lap fOUT . With firs t-moto w in ner Nords tru m sa fely behind him, Shepp had the overall class win sewed up, but he nonetheless d efended first place against a determined Rose for the en tire fina l lap. Shepp pou red it on to pr evail in the end, taking the w in for both the moto and the class overall. POST ENTRY TO FILL GATES ONLY!!! ·· Pre-Entered Riders - pi c kup packet at re g ist rati on .
