1996 AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES tested . Smail mea nw hile rode the wheels off his Suzuki to finis h thi rd jus t be hind Jaso n Hong . Brian Dow ning and Shawn Galbraith rounded out the top five. At the start of the 250cc Expert main event, John Verdonk charged to the front of the pack. Smail and Bill Binkley came together going over the infield triple jump and Binkley crashed hard. The young rider lay motionless on the track, and the race was red -flagged while he was attended to by first-aid personnel. Fortunately Binkley was not seriously injured. but he did not make the restart. Once again Verdonk nabbed the holes hot, but he was passed by Smail before the end of the first lap. Hong moved into second soon after. DeVries was way back in the pack , but he rode hard and . by midrace had caug ht and passed Hong . Smail put on a show and raced away for the win. Hong tried a las t-lap, Jast- tum p ass on Devries but crashed trying. ending up third. Next across the line were Verdonk and Galbraith. Results 125 NOV : 1. ~.. n Rycrof t (Hon); 2. DeVries flies at Abbotsford AX By Garry Radford ABBOTSFORD, BC, DEC 9 With freezi ng rain and snow outside, round two of the Tucker Rocky Arenacross Series went on as sched uled in the Agrifa ir building in Abbotsford with 175 rid ers en tered. Travis Gage from Sno homish, Washington, won the 125cc Interm ed iat e main event in fine style . Br uce Jackso n was second , with yo ung Shawn McDougall han g in g in fo r third. Da n Reynold s charged from the back of the pack for fourth. Gage again got the jump on the field in the 250cc I nter medi ate class . As the pack ap proached the first do uble jump, Tiger Wingert go t out of shape and on landing we nt for a trip ove r the bars. Luckily the followi ng riders took evasive action and no body else crashed. T his . was a ll Gage need ed to race off for the wi n . Darry l Raci ne finis hed seco nd, and Sean Kra h n roun ded out the top three. In the 80cc A-elass main, Dar cy Lange headed the field for the first few lap s with Shawn McDougall and Nicky Dunn on his rear fender and eventually getting by . Dunn proceeded to chase Mc Do ugal) un til Dunn c rashed out. McDougall took a well-deserved win. Lange battled back for seco nd ahead of Rob Hinze. In the 250cc Expert main, Lance Smail crashed off the track on the third lap and re-entered the race a little farther down the track from where he went off. With the crowd cheering h im on he made a fantas tic charge from almost a lap down to take the lead three laps from the finish, The referee docked him five places for entering the race at a different place from where he made his exi t, a decision which did not go down well wi th the crowd.
