.INTERVIEW Cycle News Rider of the Year Jeremy McGrath By Donn Maeda s Jeremy McGrath fumbles with the small padlock on the bow of his ski boat, I chuckle and wonder just how necessary it is for him to lock his boat to the dock. Who needs locks when a visitor needs a prearranged pass, a driver's license and a planned agenda just to get into the neighborhood? Following what McGrath describes as "the best season of his life," the three-time AMA 51/percross and reigning 250cc National Champion decided to indulge a little. McGrath moved from his humble home in Murietta, California, into a much larger residence in Canyon Lake, California. The half-million-dollar-estate is built on the lakeside, allowing McGrath to partake in his favorite pastime - water sport. That is, when he has the time. A reward, if you would, for a season of hard work. Jeremy McGrath burst into the motocross big leagues three years ago and won the Camel Supercross Championship on his first try. It was the first time that the title had ever been won by a rookie, and pundits doubted that he could do it again.
