Davey Yezek (Suz) was the big winner
at the War Memorial Coliseum Arenacross in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, on
December 8-10. Yezek scored both the
125 and 250cc Expert-class wins Saturday and Sunday, while Brock Sellards
(Kaw) and Mike Katin (Hon) carded the
125 and 250cc Expert-class wins on Friday.
AMA Grand National dirt track competitors will have another high-powered
privateer team to contend with as aftermarket motorcycle saddle maker Mike
Corbin has joined forces with the West
Coast Racing team of Tim "Taco" Torreci lias and Eaken Racing to form
Corbin Racing, which will field a threeman team consisting of Dave Camlin,
Chance Darling and Lonnie Pauley for
the 1996 season. Camlin will remain
-aboard Harley-Davidson machinery
with Eaken spinning the wrenches while
Darling will campaign Bill Sagundesprepped Honda RS750s. Pauley will
compete in the AMA 883cc National
Championship Series aboard a Corbin
Racing/Supertrapp Harley-Davidson
883. The entire operation will be based
out of Eaken's Windham, Oruo, shop
with the team taking to the road in a
new Dodge Ram dually/40-foot Weekend Warrior fifth-wheel combo as well
as a Team Corbin 18-wheeler at selected
events. "Mike Corbin and I have been
friends for a long time, and he asked me
to put something together for ltim," said
Torrecillas, who will be the team manager and handle the PR chores. "Mike
has seen all the TV coverage that dirt
track has been getting and the demographies of the fans, and he has seen a
connection to both the Hondas and the
Harleys."
Former World Superbike Champion
Scott Russell will definitely compete in
the Marcl, 10 running of the Daytona
200. Russell, who recently tested the new
Suzuki GSXR7SO at Daytona International Speedway, will try to become the first
man ever to win four Daytona 200s. "I
wanted to try the bike out and see what I
could do with it," Russell said. "The
thing is great, stable - I'm looking forward to doing the 200 with it."
Pireill held its first test session at Daytona International Speedway on December 10-11, wi th a focus on becoming a
force.in U.5. road racing. Among those
trying the Metzeler and Pireill tires were
Thunderbike Champion Yves Briguet,
Austrian Christian Zwedorn, German
Stefan Schewchowitsch and Canadian
Owen Weichel. "This is my first time in
the U.5.," said Salvo Pennisi, the manager of Pireill Group's testing and research
and development office in Sicily. "It is
very important for us. The American
market is our next target and Daytona is
the key. My visit here is to study so that
we can build - in a very short time - a
dedicated product for the March races."
The test session involved tires for Superbike, 600 and 750cc Supersport, HarleyDavidson SuperTwins and SuperTeams.
The fastest of the testers on the first day·
was Briguet, who turned a 1:58.46 on his
600cc Supersport bike; Briguet finished
10th in last year's 600cc Supersport final
at Daytona.
According to sources in Europe, former
250cc World Champion John Kocinski
is set to sign a contract with Ducati to
contest the 1996 World Superbike
Championship. Kocinski will team with
Brit Neil Hodgson on the Virginio Ferrari-run factory team.
Three-time Grand National Champion
Ricky Graham is planning to hold a
motorcycle flat track clinic, to be held
December 23 and 30 in the Northern
California area. The 39-time National
winner would like to hear from riders
interested in attending such a school.

American Indian actor Russell Means,
famous for his roles in major movies
such as The Last of the Mohicans and
Pochahontas, will meet with Wall Street
analysts and representatives of the
media on December 12 to announce that
he has entered into a wide-ranging relationship with First Entertainment Inc.,
the Connecticu t-based multimedia
entertainment group, to promote the
return of the famed Indian Motorcycle.
Means will be chairman of the American
Indian Motorcycle Trust, organized to
benefit American Indian social causes
by raising money through various Indian motorcycle activities.
