smart race. 1had a big lead in the championship (points race) in the 250 class. All 1 had to do was finish so 1 was taking it easy in the second loop." Uke many of the racers, Abbott had high praise for the course. "This is one of the best courses in the country. It's So tight and technical you're barely ever sitting down. You have to give it 110 percent, and that's the way it should be," said Abbott. Fifth-placed Harden was pleased with everything - from the layout of the course to the performance of his KTM 300. "This thing drug myoId butt around here a lot faster than 1 wanted it to in places. It just worked like a champ all day, and 1 had some good races with some of the kids," said Harden. Nick Pearson survived a rear flat and a smashed pipe to finish sixth overall and third in the 250cc Pro class, and Craig Smith took fourth 250cc Pro just two minutes behind him. "I r~ out of energy halfway through the second loop," said Smith. "It was a super-fun course but it was really tiring. 1 was still going good, but 1 didn't even want to ride a motorcycle any more by .the time 1 got to the finish." After beating his way out of the bushes in loop one, Scott Morris started to run out of energy in loop two and focused on finishing ahead of Krause and Mark Lundgreen to win the series championship in the Open Pro division. His dream came true when he crossed the line in eighth overall, just ahead of 16-year-old Russell Pearson, who topped the Sportsman division on a KTM250. "It was fun - really fun, and there was hardly any dust," said Pearson, who started more than 30 rows from the front of the starting grid. "I've been racing where it's so dusty you can hardly see. In this race, you could actually catch people and pass." Tenth overall went to John Braasch, who took 125cc Pro honors 13 minutes ahead of second-placed Troy Kalina. "It was nice and tight - perfect for a 125," said Braasch, who thanked Scott Sheak for the RM125 and Suzuki for supplying the tires and wheels. Andy Nelson adopted a "ride steady" policy that took him to 11th overall. "1 just tried not to fall down or hit any choya and it went pretty smooth," said Nelson. Open Expert Ed Sorenson crossed the line in 12th, and four-stroke Pro Johnny Campbell, who was the only rider in his class,.completed the course in 13th overall. 0laughlin HS laughlin, Nevada R....Its: December 2, 1995 O/A: 1.
