The Grand Prix event is the ideal ( champion maker, for it combines seg- . ments of the TT, supercross and motocross circuits with a wild ride in the woods. Not only are a rider's skills tested, but with 3D-minute heats, endurance counts as well. Riders were blessed with a cool, cloudy day for the final event. By the end of the day three Costa Rican riders would earn championships: Alex Viquez, Eduado Rojas and Fonseca. Kodak team manager Carlos Aries provides bikes, transportation, lodging and expenses for his five-rider team. The 125cc A race finally gave Shaun • Perolio his first win. Perolio said, "Charlie Bogard and 1 were slow starting and came through the pack together. I picked up the lead and felt good, when I overran a turn, went over th.e bars and my face guard kissed the tree. I remounted and thought Bogard would catch me, but 1 held the lead." Johnson was knocked out of the 125cc points when a rear axle came loose. But Johnson secured his Championship in the 250cc A race, coming back from fifth at the end of lap one to lead the final lap ahead of Sellards and Bogard. Jake Griffis stormed back to third in the 51cc (7-8) final behind Davi Milsaps and Andrew Matusek. Griffis said, "1 wanted that KTM prize and picked enough points to win the Stock overall." Alex Viquez topped the Stock and Modified point totals for the Olympiad championship. After sweeping every event, 85cc (711) Champion Rojas said, "My sponsor, Jose Ferraro, brought me here from Costa Rica as his only rider and 1 was glad that 1 could win." Weyand Bentley ended their weeklong 125cc (12-15) battle, joined by Fonseca and Pastrana. Wey led all the way, with Bentley on his fender and never far behind.
