ARENACROSS Round 2: Veterans Auditorium Super Arenacross 5eries (Left) Chad Pederson ralls through the first tum en route to the Friday night 250cc maln-event win. (Right) Denny Stephenson (18) gets ready to pass defending Arenacross Chemplon Jimmy Geddis (1). By Pam Lambert DES MOINES, lA, OV. 17-18 ound two of the MSR/ Answer/ KBC-sponsored PJ1 Super Arenacross Series visi ted Veterans Auditorium, and Chad Pederson and Denny Stephenson took home all the gold. Pederson won both classes Friday night in front of a hometown crowd while Stephenson swept both classes Saturday night. Amid boos from the Pedersonpartial crowd, Stephenson said, "We got real close but I was glad to hear Chad say he would have done the same thing if he had been in my shoes. We got close but it was just good racing. You guys saw one hell of a race, and if you didn't like that race you can kiss my ass!" (Right) .Jeromy Buehl (2) anll Grayson Goodman (3) file through the first tum. (Below) Hometown favorite Chad Pederson scored a pair of popular wins on Friday night. FRIDAY The crowd was thrilled by a wire-towire win in the 2S0cc class by SplitFire/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Pederson. Jeromy Buehl had a flawless start aboard his new Thor/Team Green ride, but Pederson quicklyskimmed through the whoops to take the lead. Honda of Troy rider Todd DeHoop pulled alongside Buehl and the two riders stayed close for several laps with De Hoop pulling a slight edge along the start/finish straight. Cliff Palmer trailed just behind in fourth and found an opening around Buehl as he ducked underneath in a right-hander. As Pederson thrilled the crowd on the last lap with a style show over the Budweiser Double, Palmer pulled alongside DeHoop. Pederson motored around to take the checkered flag first while Palmer and DeHoop battled with lapped riders and Palmer was able to go outside on the last tum while DeHoop's tight inside line was slowed by traffic. Pederson took the win; Palmer w.as second and DeHoop third. Buehl held on to fourth and Gaddis worked his way up to finish fifth. SATURDAY Shawn Morgan pulled the holeshot in the 12Scc main event, but defending Arenacross Champion Grayson' Goodman blasted through the whoops and stole the lead. Stephenson powered through the whoops past Morgan to quickly take control of second while Pederson landed ahead of Morgan from the Budweiser Double to move into third. Goodman was unstoppable and unpassable for the first five laps of the a-lap main event, but Stevenson's tight, inside line in the left-hander before the start/ finish straightaway was quicker and Stephenson blasted ahead for the lead. Pederson was just behind the front runners in third and surprised Goo~man when he blew past in the whoops. Morgan continued to hold fourth but had to fight off a charge by Buehl until he slid out in a tum. Morgan then had to hold off Greg Rand, but Rand eventually crashed his Honda in the whoops. Morgan was then attacked by Gaddis, who made a pass that stuck. Stephenson and Pederson continued theh war ou t front, lap after lap. Finally, on the white-flag lap, Pederson out-jumped Stephenson over the Budweiser double and took the lead for a split second. When the two riders entered the next tum, Stephenson was on the inside and Pederson on the outside. On the step-up jump that followed the tum, the riders banged bars and Pederson planted his handlebars over into a hay bale. Stephenson went on to the finish line while Pederson quickly picked up his 'bike and held on to second just ahead of Goodman. Gaddis had worked his way up from the back of the pack to finish fourth while Mark Morris took fifth. Gaddis grabbed the holeshot in the 2S.0cc main event, but Stephenson had the whoop section dialed in and flew past. Stephenson had smooth sailing out front. Rand was in second holding a slight lead over DeHoop and Palmer until he crashed into a hay bale after the triple jump. When the halfway flags were shown, Stephenson had a good lead and ·Gaddis was comfortably in second. The next six riders were so close it was difficult to tell who was in command of what place. Lapped riders provided a few opportunities for Palmer and Pederson to move ahead of the others while De-Hoop and Buehl had to pick and choose lines more carefully to avoid major crashes. Stephenson finished first for his second win of the evening. Gaddis was second with his best finish of the weekend. Palmer, Pederson and DeHoop completed the top five. c:N Veterans Memorial Coliseum Des Moines, Iowa Results: November 17-18,1995 Friday 125 EX: 1. Chad Pederson (Kaw); 2. Jeromy Buehl (Kaw); 3.
