Toland terrorizes Willow
Springs Road Race
By Eric Vincent
ROSAMOND.CA,OCT,I'·15
World Endurance Champion Doug Toland
proved he can also win sprint races when he
rode to victory in the Toyota Gold Cup Formula
One race at the '10th round of Wi1low Springs
Motorcycle Club action at Willow Springs International Raceway.
Current F-l points Ie.:lder Curtis Adams was
the fastest rider off the line followed by Dean
Vincent and Toland. Down the back straight on
the fir t lap, Toland moved around Vincent on
his Scott Waters-prepared Ducati 955 to move
into second. Entering the front straight to complete the first lap. Toland drafted and passed
Adams but was pushed back when Adams
closed the door on him in turn one. However,
Toland would not be denied as.he powered past
Adams gomg into the next tum.
As the second lap came to a close. Paul
Mumford established himself in second and
bL-gan pacing Vincent. Several laps later, Mllplford passed Vincent on the outside of tum eight,
but Vincent had an obvious horsepower advantage as he moved back into third on the front
straight.
The remainder of the race saw Mumford
attempt to pilSS Vincent in the same turn-eight
sweeper, but Vincent consistently regained third
in the front straight. At the line it was Toland
with the win followed by Adams second and
Vincent third.
The Maxima Racing Oil/Tom Sera Racing
Formula Two event turned into a race of attrition as several top competitors either crashed ar
had problems with their motorcycles.
Steve Teschke was fastest off the line but was
qUickly caught and passed by Kent Kunitsugu
find Lance Holst. Kunitsugu then lost the front
end on his motorcycle going into turn four,
moving Holst into the lead.
Teschke was holding down second while
Michael Montoya was now promoted to third.
But the position of Kunitsugu and his crashed
motorcycle in tum four caused WSMC officials
to red-flag the race.
On the restart. Teschke repeated his excellent
start off the line with Holst in second and Frank
Aragaki in third. In the back straight, Holst and

Minis reign at Seattle MX
By Mickey Locke
KEN·r. WA.. OCT. 8
Mini riders showed up in force for round seven
of the Washington State Championship Series at
Seattle lntemationaJ Raceway on October 8.
Despite several days of rain leading into race
day, and a muddy, "one-line" track, the half-
sized racers put on a fuJ I-size show for fans who
showed up to catch the action.
The SOcc Beginner class yielded a full gate of
28 riders and a very interesting start. Christopher Miller pulled the holeshot closely followed
by a tight-knit group that included Ronald Marshall. Ryan Ennis, David Frasier and Jeff
Williams. When Miller went down in the
whoops he left the door open for a scramble that
allowed Mike Aragon to sweep past them all
and come into the next corner leading Ennis,
Frasier. Marshall and Bobby Aragon.
Ennis passed Mike Aragon on the back side,
which opened up the race to give series points
leader Frasier an opportunity to apply some
pressure on that first-place spot. With only a single line open to these smaller bikes. Frasier was
left with only being able to tailgate Ennis until a
miscalculation caused Ennis to go off the track
in the doubles. Seizing his opportunity, Frasier
sailed by Ennis to capture and keep the numberone spot.
The 80cc Beginner second-mota holeshot
went to Jesse Meiers, who was followed by Mike
Aragon and Ryan Mayer. Frasier found himself
last off the line with plenty of work ahead of
him.
By the end of the first half lap, he had managed to pass into mid pack, and then picked off
the leaders one at a time. before making a gutsy
pass by Ennis in the whoops to took over fifth
place. With Mike Aragon now leading, the race
was between Meiers and Ryan Mayer. who
made the charge and moved into second white
Frasier charged in on Chad Polls and ou~umped
him in a set of doubles to capture fourth place.
He then set his sights on th.ird-place Meiers,
who had gotten caught in lap traffic. With Mike
Aragon leading Ennis, time ran out for Frasier to
catch Meiers and he had to settle for a fourthplace moto win and a second overall.
