engines, wheels, and whatever else he could do to stay racing, the dark cloud seemed to follow. In the end, Short went home empty-handed with three cycles that were in need of not only repair, but reassembly as welL Mike Alessi recently turned seven years old and competed in his fiTst National with the older SOcc (7-8) crowd, as well as with the 60cc (0-8) division riders. Ales i served notice to the older riders that he would be a contender as he pested a double-moto sweep of the SOcc Stock (7-8) class and the nabbed the overaJJ win in the bigger 60cc (0-8) Stock division as welL Alessi topped Texan Shane Squires and fellow Californian Ricky Hemme in the SOcc Stock (7-8) class, and Georgian Andrew Matusek and Florida's Davi Millsaps in the 60cc (0-8) division. Though Alessi was impressive in his debuts in his new classes, the most exciting moto of mini cycle racing was reserved for Lancaster, California's Ricky Hemme in the new Super Pee Wee (6-9) division. The new Super Pee Wee class introduced at Branson will cater to an older group of riders, up to nine years of age, and will showcase trick minicycles like Hemme's. "We have spent about $4000 on this bike," Hemme said. "It's got 12 horsepower and will wheelie with a 200• pound adult riding it." Hemme rode with a lot of heart in the first. Super Pee Wee moto and held off a moto-long attack from Andrew Matusek and Maryland's Nick Evennou. Matusek crashed on the final lap while attempting a last-ditch pass on Hemme just before the checkered flag. Evennou inherited the second spot, while Matusek picked himself off the ground for third. The Cobras of Millsaps and Jake Griffis from South Carolina stole the show in the second moto and smoked the field en route to their first- and second-place finishes. Evennou finished off the moto third and scored the overall victory. Hemme rebounded from an early-moto fall for fourth. l"N (Left) Ricky Hemme (26) led Denis Jonan and Andrew Matusek (42) In the &ace (0-8) Stock class.
