The second moto saw a repeat hoieshot by Elliott, who was riding his Pit Pro-prepared Honda, but this time Davis was in the hunt running a very close second. Davis stalked Elliott for five laps, then waHed for Elliott to show signs of fatigue. By the start of lap six Elliott began to soften and this was Davis' cue. Davis squared. off a tum at the bottom of an off-camber downhill, then made the pass and pulled away for the inoto and overall win. Elliott settled for second while WilHe Phee and Randy Lewis rounded out the top four. The Vet"Novice class saw a double-moto cluster battle between Bob Bang. Rob Healy and Mike Little. Bang was the winner by virtue of his two moto wins while Little and Healy swapped the runner-up position. Clay Friedman, George Jimenez and Robert Von Schneidiau rounded out the top six. Steve"n Price Jr. displayed raw courage in the first 80cc Beginner moto after he fell and pulled rus arm out of the socket. Price was assisted by medical staff, then resumed the race to finish . 10th. Price returned in the all-important second moto and posted the victory. His 10-1 finish left him th.ird overall behind ChrIs Elliott's 2-3 and overall winner Andrew Turner's 1-2. ResiJlts l 50: 1. Jeff Alessi (LEM)j 2. Matthew labrAdor (Yam). 60 (o-s): I. Casillas cleans house at Sarona Motocross By Homer Eubanks RAMONA, CA OCT. 22 Once again, Jesus Casillas came out to Sarona .Oaks Raceway and swept the competition aside, winning all six of his motos while competing in the junior Cycle (9-11) Stock, 80cc (9-11) Stock and Super Mini divisions. Billy Laninovich was Casillas' biggest threat as Laninovich trailed 'in both the Super Mini motos. Travjs Bemis managed second overall in the 80cc (9-11) Stock class after having a 3-2 day. Anthony BrusceUa seemed to have recovered from his recent broken leg and managed a third behind Bemis with a 2-3 showing. Bruscella was again third for the day in the junior Cycle (9-11) class after producing secondand third-place finishes to Ryan Beat's 3-2. Cas Swift (fourth overall) appeared to b.e adapting quickly to the big track after being moved over from the small track because of an age ruling. Don Connelly pulled out the Old Pharls A overall win after getting spanked by Steve Laninovich and Dan Walsh in the first moto. Connelly came back with it vengeance to dominate the second race. Walsh 'had a 2-3 day to earn second overall. Guy Shidner took both Old Pharts B mota wins to warrant the overall. Michael Fox took home 125cc Novice honors after winning the first moto and placing second to Manny Arias in the following round. Arias' fifth-place finish in the first moto still earned him s"econd for the day. Results INTRO TO MX: 1. Peter Scully (Yam); 2. Ryan Newman (Knw); 3. Ash Hodges (Kaw); 4. Beau Bergman (I-Ion); 5. CA, OCT. 22 Teammates David Pingree and Casey Johnson knocked out the competition in the 125cc Pro class with a potent 1-2 finish during round four of the GFI Fall Series at Los Angeles County Raceway. The local racers came out in droves to challenge the establishing GFT Fall Series leaders, but in the end Pingree powered to the overall victory with Johnson posting the runner-up position in front of local sensation Casey Lytle. "This is my home track, and 1 think if I can get out front I can ride the pace of the leader," said Lytle. Lytle, a rising star who arrived at the track tn an old whHe pickup truck and just enough money for entries, put it to the 24-rider field in the first 125cc Pro moto by pulling the holeshot and leading every lap of the race for the mota win. "This kid has unbelievable talent," said former pro Russ Wageman. "He has made a lot of progress in a very short time." Lytle's short career began as an BOcc Beginner in the winter of 1990 and has evolved over the past five years into 125cc Pro status. Lytle sent a powerful message with his first, mota victory over Johnson, Pingree, Rusty Holland and Dustin Nelson that this rookie is destined for future stardom. But the second mota s.:,w the established pros take control after early leaders Nelson and Hoiland tangled and went down. From that point forward, the dynamic duo of Pingree and johnson stole the show by racing unchallenged to finish in the top two spots. First-mota winner Lytle started well but could only muster a fifth-place finish at the checkered flag behind Dustin Nelson, Travis Preston, Casey Johnson and the overall winner Pingree. The Mini racing saw some of the same intensity that was displayed by the Pro class. Thirteen-year-old jonathan Shimp was by far the most impressive Mini racer of the day, but a hard crash in the rockers during moto one and a broken shift lever during the final lap of moto two relegated this Mini sensation to a disappointing fifth for the day, behind Bryan McGavran, Sean Hamblin and overaU wil1ner Mike Young. Futral for real at Jolly Roger Motocross By Mickey Locke KENT, WA, OCT. 15 Travis Gage was one of the series pointsJeaders who showed up to claim their championships during the final round of the Washington State Championship Series at the jolly Roger Motocross Park. The first 125cc In.termediate-class moto saw Randy Futral out of the gate first, followed by Ryan Sweet, Trevor Deyo and Gage. In the first lap Deyo attempted an inside pass on Sweet and washed out in the comer, leaving Gage to pursue Sweet. With Futral comfortably out in front, Sweet 'and Gage battled bar-to-Qar untIl Gage finally prevailed 0n the downhill. Gage cIUlrged Futral's lead into the w)loops only to have Futral go down, leaving hlm to lead Sweet, jeremy Welcome, Patrick Henry and Ryan Miskall to the top five positions at the finish. in the second moto, class points leader Trevor Deyo came out of the hole second to Patrick Henry's lead. Emerg.ing from the back side of the truck, Deyo prevailed in the long downhill section to sweep i.nto his customary first-place spot. MeanwhIle, third-placed Gage set his sights on Henry and fifth-placed Randy Futral made his move to pass Ryan Sweet and take over fourth. On the second lap, Deyo maintained his lead, followed by Gage in second, and Henry, Futral and Sweet rounding out the top five. WhIle Futral passed Henry on the back side, Gage pushed Deyo into an ever-widening lead ahead of the rest of the pack. During the last lap, Deyo went off the track on a set of doubles in the back, allowing Gage, Futral. and Henry to sweep by. 'Coming back on the track in fourth place in the middle of the last lap, Deyo only had time to pass Henry and finIsh third behind Gage and Futral. Gage's 5-2 score locked the overall win for the day and was the icing on the cake of his Washington State Championship. Results 50 NONCON: 1. Kyle Babcock (KTM): Tyson JaMen (Yam); 3.
