By the time Summers got ~lf righted Plessinger was on him.
"Once you fall down it takes some of
the energy out of you," admitted Summers. "1 did the best 1 could but Scott
waS riding really well."
With SUTIlmers' momentum temporarHy shot, Plessinger made short
work of the Honda pilot and took the
lead for good. When they rode into the
barrels to be scored at the halfway point,
Plessinger was already 20 seconds clear
of his rival. The lead would grow to 30
seconds on the fifth lap and 35 on the
sixth. When the white flag came out
after seven laps Plessinger was 50 seconds clear. Summers made a valiant
charge on the last lap, but he could only
cut Plessinger's lead in half before the
checkered flag fell on the season and his
title hopes.
"Summers started catching me there
for a while, but 1 picked it back up and
put some time' on him before he could
get me in his sights," said Plessinger. "1
spent the whole last lap riding fast but
trying not to make any mistakes or not
nod. Yamaha-mounted Robert Bennett,
12th overall in the series, finished 10th
on the day.
The '95 GNCC Series Championship
marked the fourth title of Plessinger's
career. He won two AMA ational Hare
Scrambles title (1989 and '92) to go with
his two GNCC crowns ('94 and '95). As
for Summers, he has a total of six
national titles - three in each series.

"I must've IUt the ground about six
times trying to catch up," said Summers, whose mechanic Fred Bramblett
said earlier that Scott would either be
"leading or bleeding" when it was all
over. "Every time 1 tried too hard I
would start making mistakes and crash
again. It was one of those days where a
crash or a mistake has a snowball
effect."
"1 had one oLthose days like Scott
had today two weeks ago," said
Plessinger of his nearly title-costing
High Point round. "Today 1 had a good
day and everything turned out all right.
You just had to be patient and wait for
lapped riders to get out of your way or
wait until you found a place to pass
them. In fact, with two laps to go 1 was
20 seconds ahead of Scott and some lapper fell right in front of me and 1 went
down. I think that was the only time 1
fell down all day."
